You will be off 5° at long range.

It's a fact of long range shooting that has been known for over 100+ years with champion shooters.

Well, my coworker holds a national 1,000 yard PALMA record and cants the reticles on his scopes so I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Alright, so how would be the best way to mount this one piece mount on a flat top AR? Is it possible to do without setting the gun in a vise? Unfortunately, I can no longer locate my vise which is why I was looking for others the other day. The other option is to cut a piece of 2X4 so that I can set the AR on top of that via the mag well and then level the gun, then mount the one piece to that. I guess my question is how in the world do you level a one piece mount to a picatanny rail? I mean if the gun is level on both planes and then you mount the mount which apparently is not level then how in the world would you level it out? Its not like you could use wedges or something with this type of mounting system to level one side, if needed. I mean theoretically, if the gun is level, the machining is right on everything and there are no burrs then tightening the mount down to the rail should level it, correct? Then all I would need to do is level the scope within the mount and call it a day. Right?

And his scope is zeroed at 1000yds. Is that so difficult to understand? With a small cant and the zero at an extreme range, the difference at closer ranges is minimized, however if the zero is at 100yds and you try to shoot to 1000, its a totally different story. You can get away with a lot if you only ever shoot at a single distance. However, practical shooting, be it competitive shooting at unknown or variable distances or hunting, cant is your enemy. That is fact. Dispute it all you want but that just makes you on the wrong side of reality.

If that's what you've got to work with, that's what you've got to work with. Within the normal usable range of an AR it should be close enough.

SilentStalkker,

Is it possible you've got a defective scope? As for cheek weld, I think if you look around at AR sites you will find a suitable riser. Having a solid cheek weld is fundemental to shooting scoped rifles.

Magpul makes a riser for the MOE and CTR stocks in 0.25" incremental heights. Like I said earlier, they will interfere with use of the charging handle.
