I am trying to catalog my firearms for Insurance purposes and I have a couple that I cannot locate the serial numbers.

1) Savage Springfield 120A single shot .22

I have inspected the entire firearm including removing it from the stock and cannot locate the serial number.

2) Mossberg 183 DC .410 bolt action.

Again I have gone over this but have not disassembled it.

If anyone knows where the serial numbers are located it would help greatly.

Thank you!

Pre-1968 firearms were not legally required to have serial numbers, and there are a lot of .22s and shotguns that never had them.

simple record them as NSN ie. No Serial Number, the assumption is that they are Pre 64, and most cheaper guns or non military contract guns simply didn't have one.

Like Ian says, prior to the GCA of 1968, S/N's weren't required. The insurance companies know this. Mind you, not all of the monkies working there will.

Thanks a lot for the responses. I had not realized that pre 68 did dot require serial numbers. This explains several other .22s i have.
