Howdy,

My Kimber Custom II has the factory installed sights. I would like to put new sights on: 3-dots that glow at night. First, I'm willing to spend for good quality sights. I shoot for recreation, so competition stuff is unnecessary. Second, what do you recommend??? Finally, I'm not a gunsmith (I'm also afraid of breaking the gun), so I was thinking of sending (taking) it to a good gunsmith. What about Kimber Custom Shop??? Anybody have any experience with them??? I live in Los Angeles.

I had Kimber install Meprolight 3 dot night sights on my Stainless II. The factory sights are installed with a hydralic press, and are near impossible to remove without the press, plus, you have a good chance of losing or damaging the firing pin safety. Kimber usually has about a week turnaround time for sight installation. Just send the slide to them.

How does Kimber ensure the accuracy of the new installed sights???? If you just ship the slide, what guarantees do I have that the sights are good for 2.5" groupings at 25 feet??

Go with Meprolight sights. They're the "factory" Kimber model and won't let you down.

As far as putting them on there, take your pistol to a local gunsmith and have them put them on. It's not that hard, but you don't want to do it yourself out of the box.

Maybe I was lucky, but when I got my slide back, the sights were dead on the money. The replacement sights are much easier to drift is adjustments are needed.

I use Dawson Fiber Optic fronts as well as Meprolight fronts on my Kimbers. Mepro's are fine, nothing exceptional to write home about, but they work just fine.

I live in LA and send most of my local gunsmith work through:
- Bob Miles (I'll get his new number)
- Dean Wilkerson (818.988.7266 in Van Nuys; awesome but 6-8 week backlog)
- Hoag Gun Works (818.998.1510 in Canoga Park, also a long backlog)
- King's Gun Works (818.956.6010 in Glendale, kinda rude, but they do good work)

Good luck!

Sights and Point Of Aim have nothing whatsoever to do with grouping. That's up to the Gunner and the gun.
