Has anybody out there ever had experience with the Kimber Custom CDP II or Pro CDP II pistols? If yes, would you highly recommend them? Also, would the Wilson 8 rounder or any 8 rounder magazine in the market fit into them?
THANKS.

The older "Series I" CDP's are great guns, but I wouldn't recommend a Series II gun to anybody.

To answer your second question, yes. They both share the full size frame and will accept any standard 1911 mag.

Stasher1,
What is the problem or what is wrong with the Kimber Series II of CDP pistols?
THANKS.

Some people have complained about the firing pin safety on the II's not disengaging because they don't compress the grip safety enough. You could always have it removed if it's a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Kimber, especially a CDP (money premitting, of course:D )

I have a CDP Pro II and so far it has proven to be a great pistol. I like it a lot and it has become my primary carry piece even though I own custom 1911 pistols costing three times as much money. I did remove the Series II safety stuff (the rear sight is a bitch to remove) and a little material was removed from the nose of the grip safety to ensure disengagement at the slightest touch.

I have a CDP Compact series I and its a great little gun' my only complaint would be that the night sights the factory uses (Meprolights as I recall) are dim in comparison to Trijicons. Other than that its just about perfect.

The new Meprolight sights are much brighter than the ones used on the "Series I" Kimbers. They're probably the only part on the new Kimbers that have improved, though.

What is the problem or what is wrong with the Kimber Series II of CDP pistols?

The fit, finish, and reliability of the parts they use. They don't actually "fit" any parts to the gun. They're all poor quality CMC "Easy Fit" MIM parts.

1) I had a poorly manufactured slide stop that was out of spec, causing the slide to lock back every couple rounds. Wound up replacing it with a Wilson.

2) Had a poorly manufactured mag catch that allowed the mag sit too low in the frame, causing failures to feed. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but Kimber cuts the mag catch holes in the frame so much bigger than the mag catch that the whole thing sits too low in the frame. I replaced it with another CMC mag catch which broke in half after about 300 rounds.

3) Had several failures to return to battery caused by the Series II firing pin safety plungers colliding. Maybe if they took the time to radius the plungers that kind of stuff wouldn't happen.

If you hold a new Kimber next to an old one of the same style, you'll see the difference easily. The "Series I" guns are properly machined, accurate, reliable, beautiful, and reliable guns.

Foolish me, I was expecting that kind of quality from the Series II guns as well... I guess $700+ doesn't get you what it used to.

Stasher1- wow, that's sad to hear. I've not looked at the Kimbers since they came out with the Series II guns. In addition to the CDP I have a older stainless target, and they both have been flawless. That's a shame about the Series II guns.
