I have a 38 s&m special CTG. the model number stamped on the butt and under the ejector is 400858. it has fixed sights and blued barrel which looks to about 6 inchs (quick guess). on top of the barrel it has (smith and wesson springfield mass. u.s.a. patented Oct. 8. 01. Dec. 17. 01. Feb. 8. 06. Sept.
14. 08. Dec. 29. 14.) any info on this pistol would be greatly appreciated, thank you

.38 S&W Special CTG is the .38 S&W Special Cartrige which is the round the gun is chambered for.

The 400858 is the serial number, not the model number.

Barrel length is measured with a ruler from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle.

Since you are guessing at barrel length, I'm Guessing you have an M&P Model of 1905, 4th. Change, made between 1915 (241,704) - 1942 (758,296).

it is a 6 inch barrel and the only other number I found on it is behind the hinge of the cylinder which is 28331 and I still have the original holster. any idea on the value of this pistol
