I have an Ithaca 22 saddle gun lever action. It's missing the the magizine assembly that slides into the mag tube. I read somewhere that the henry 22 lever guns are identical to the Ithaca. Can anyone confirm that the mag assembly for the Henry will fit my Ithaca saddle gun?

Very likely not many folks have both an Ithaca and Henry to be able to try them back and forth.

A better avenue might be to ask someone with the Ithaca to measure up the inner mag tube and cartridge plunger protrusion and then a Henry owner can do the same.

Your other best option would be to ask to meet up with a Henry owner in your area so you can try fitting the tube to your Ithaca.

The repeating Ithaca 22 Lever-guns need a long follower in their magazine tube. Brownells sells 22 magazine tube kits with both the long and short follower.

mine is the ithaca saddle gun model 72. so is that part your referencing for my gun?

can you link to this kit? i can't seem to find it on there site.

My computer is going nuts and it won't let me see pictures today.

Anyway take a look at these. You need one with the longer follower. I fixed up a M-72 Ithaca, but the kit I had only had a short follower. (the gizmo that stick out the end and pushed the bullets) So I made a long follower by taking apart a plastic body from one of my Kid's wall darts. Then I chucked it up in an electric drill and made it into the correct shape.

and change the follower if needed? you have any pictures or measurements of the one you worked on?

The Henry is an American made copy of the old German made Erma lever action rifle.

It isn't a copy of the Ithaca 72 and the magazine tubes will likely not interchange.

my ithaca is from west-germany just like the erma's rifles… looking at the schematics of my gun versus the henry i can't tell a difference really. the barrel on my gun is the same exact length as that on the henry.

henry on left . ithaca on right

is that the ithaca part number or jack first gun part number?
it is listed as 220090B on numrich

called jacks and the part is $80 !!!! yikes!

so $80 is way to much for the part in my eyes.

So i ordered the universal brownells kit since its only 18$ and i was ordering stuff for my marlin 336 anyway. ill let y'all know if it works out.

if it doesn't work ill be back to the drawing board.

oh and I'm also refinishing the walnut stock with the minwax antique oil (just like the sticky in the gunsmithing section of the forum). It looks AMAZING so far. I wonder where the wood is from since the gun was put together in west germany… anyone know where they sourced their walnut from?

Germans use a lot of Turkish walnut.

$80 is waaay too high, you must have got the MOB on the phone! (Mean Old Broad)

I would order one from Gun Parts Inc. if they have in stock, price will be a lot less than $80 and if it isn't right & you don't muck it up, they will accept a return. HTH

Easy way to get a handle on this... E-mail Henry, and get their take on the magazine tube. I'm pretty sure that they will interchange. (The Henry, Ithaca 72, and an Iver Johnson 22 lever action are all essentially the same gun. The Erma - and thus the 72 - I would think were made with metric dimensions, however. Shouldn't be a big deal with the magazine tube, though.)

i did email them.

this is what they said.
Thank you for your interest in Henry. We are unsure if our inner magazine tube will fit or not as we have not tested it.

I have both guns and while I don't know about the mag tube I do know that no other part inside will work. They are close enough to know that they are copies but the bolt lever and other internal parts are slightly different. For example the bolt on one of them has a quarter inch square removed from one side of it while the other is solid, the one with the groove would likely fit in the other, but not vice versa.

if you would be so kind will you see if the mag assembly from the henry will fit and load bullets in the ithaca? or maybe even take a picture of the two mag assemblies side by side? i can find any detailed picks of the ithaca part beyond the schematics drawings.

I will but it will be Friday at best due to work if
not I will definitely do it Saturday if that helps
