Some time ago I bought some blemished bullets frim Midway. Supposed to be fine except discolored. I have bought different ones before.

I got a few boxes of 110 FMJRN 30 carbine bullets.

I have not shot the carbine for a while so I though I would load some up.

Resized cases, trimmed de burred and started to load. Using almost a max load of H110.

OAL is supposed to be 1.680. So I started checking and some are and some are not??

I measured 100 bullets and found half are .673 and half are .652. I weighed some samples and they are all 110 gr.

So my question is on the short ones is this further in the case and will cause a over pressure situation?

I have no idea where the weight distribution is. I am afraid to shoot any short ones so I weeded all those out and figured I would load them separate after adjusting the seating die.

Having to measure bullets kinda sucks the fun out of reloading!
Any thoughts. ideas suggestions? I guess you get what you paid for.:(

I wouldn't worry about it. the only way you can get a shorter OAL is the shorter bullet it's also woofer at the top. I bet case volume is still close.

This is often caused by a seating stem that doesn't perfectly match the contour of the bullet. Instead of contacting the nose of the bullet, it contacts it on the ogive, which may, or may not, be consistant.

Hope this helps.

I can see where that might happen, but the bullets (measured) are different lengths.

What I am concerned about is after seating the OAL is different and I can not determined if the bullet is at the same seating depth inside the case.

If they are all seated inside to the same seating depth then no overpressure problem and I just have longer and shorter cartridges.

If they are seating deeper then there is a problem.
