Throughout the past year, anytime I pass a gun shop, stop to see if they have any loading components in stock. Especially powder or primers. A few months ago, picked up a couple pounds of Herco at a very pre pandemic price.
Not sure I recall why I began loading Herco in 45 Colt, when Unique is sort of the "standard" powder for "regular" 45 Colt loads. Perhaps, because Herco fills the case more
That said, in 45 Colt 9 gr Herco with a 255 SWC has been a great load - for 950 fps from a 6" barrel.
Looking back through some loading notes from past years, in 44 Mag with a 255 yr WFN bullet 9 gr Herco creates a nice shooting load at 1040 fps, 6" barrel.
More note mining in 41 Mag, 9 yr Herco launches a 215 yr SWC at 1200 fps - from 6 1/2" RBH.
In 357 Mag, 9 yr Herco under 140 yr TCFP coated Zinger generates a fairly zippy 1350 fps, 6" barrel.
These common loads are convenient for me, as my Little Dandy rotor #18 dispenses 9 yr Herco.
One powder and measure for the cartridges I most commonly load (except 38SPL- also use Herco, but not 9 yr). Above load data is at your own risk.
