It says made in Canada on one side and has the Enfield broad arrow on the trigger.

Any suggestions for how I should start turning it into a DSA SA58 SPR

I'm just concerned with accuracy at the moment because I've just in the last couple days heard that FALs are gennerally not that accurate.:banghead:

FALs can be as accurate as any other modern military rifle. I'm not that familiar with FALs but $650 for a semi auto .308, hey I'd buy that especially with all the insanity going on. I have an account over at FALfiles and I don't recall having any problems creating an account or posting (they have an M14 sub-forum I look into once and a while). Congrats enjoy, hope you have a stock pile of 7.62 Nato as the prices have gone bat S#%*T crazy these days.

I haven't heard that. Infact I've heard that the g3 and m14 are both more accurate. So I don't know much of anything about guns, how would one go about making this FAL more accurate? new barrel?

Well I guess it depends how accurized the rifle is and the quality of the parts and who put it together and so on and so forth. Like I said I'm more into M14s as I own an SAI M1A but I do know that they do make nice accurate high quality FALs that are plenty accurate. Would it be as accurate as a Super Match M1A? I'm not sure but I'm sure an accurized FAL can shoot a whole lot better that most people shooting it. I think with FALs because they were more widespread throughout the world with so many different makers that the quality of rifles really varies as opposed to say an M14 where there are only a small handful of makers.

I'm not sure specifics on how one accurizes a FAL but a heavier barrel, a good match trigger and accurate sites probably get you 85% of the way there. Get over to FALfiles and study up and shoot it up.

I had a IMBEL FAL a while back, and compared it side-by-side with my M1A, and the accuracy of a FAL was way off. I posted that result on the FAL forum, and some dude bad-mouthed my post. In the end, I sold the FAL and quit that forum.

The main problem that I encountered with my FAL was that: when the barrel heats up, it will start throwing rounds in all directions at 100 yards. Cold barrel 4 -5 MOA was suddenly turned into a 10 MOA group when the barrel is hot. You don't see that with a M1A STD when it heats up.

M1A has a rotating bolt design that locks in place, and as I recall, FAL does not have a rotating bolt. G3/CETME is a much more accurate design than FAL but not as reliable.

Positives of a Mil Spec FAL: 1) It is very reliable as long as you have the widow's peak feeding ramp. 2) The recoil is adjustable. 3) You can take the gun down into 2 pieces and store them in a smaller box. 4). Receiver is milled and will last "forever". In comparison, CETME/G3 receiver is stamped, and once the delayed blow-back mechanism is worn out, you need a new receiver. 5) It is a piece of history, a very effective combat rifle at 100 yards. 6) It looks sexy.

Edit: that particular FAL that you have is a Century-Arms L1A1 sporter with a neutered barrel. It contains metric and inch parts mixed together, and that is why it is $700. Pray that it has a "widow's peak feeding ramp". If so, may be a decent rife but you need to make sure that the barrel is properly aligned/screwed in, and that the head-spacing is correct. You may want to let a gunsmith check the headspacing before you fire it. Because if the barrel is not properly turned, the accuracy may be way off.

So if I got a heavier barrel that might take care of it? I noticed how much thicker the m16 barrel is compared to my fals.

I'll start looking into that feed ramp ASAP.


I did a google search for widow's peak feeding ramp and am having trouble, I took some pictures of the feed ramp but they suck. Can anyone tell me what makes it a widow's peak or not?

Also are we all agreed that its a c1a1 receiver? are those any good?

Sure man. Widow's peak feeding ramp looks like two half-moon shaped feeding ramps placed next to each other. $2500 DSA FALs all have heavy barrels, and I think their bolt is fitted to the receiver, unlike the mil spec ones which are mass produced and were built for reliability and not accuracy. Your gun is called a Century Sporter, which is neither L1A1 nor FAL, it is a hybride franken-gun.

It is a good gun for plinking, but not for match, or hunting.

Hope u have fun with it. Don't invest too much money on it... just shoot it and enjoy it.

looks like the one I just picked up a couple weeks ago. I love mine, just hate feeding it .308 is expensive so i need to get my reloading bench hot:banghead:. Enjoy!
