Manhunt Underway for Good Samaritan Murder Suspects

Police are looking for two adults they say killed a good samaritan in a store parking lot. Robert Williams and his girlfriend Stephanie Hudson are wanted for the murder of Jerry McEwen.
Police say Williams stabbed McEwen when he tried to stop him from stealing a 60-year old woman's purse in a shopping center parking lot on east Thompson Lane in south Nashville.
Police identified Williams through security camera video. As of Wednesday night, police say the crime is frustrating because Robert Williams was paroled last May for assault and weapons possession convictions. "Mr. Williams is no stranger to violence. He has served many years in the Department of Correction for violent crime. In fact he was paroled three times. In two of those situations the parole was revoked. He went back to prison,” said Don Aaron, spokesperson for metro police.
Kroger is offering a $10,000.00 reward for information that leads to an arrest in this crime. Police say Williams may also be responsible for a robbery outside a Dickerson pike Kroger last Friday.

I guess ex-cons can't be good Samaritans. If this is true, where were the police when this woman's purse was stolen?

You would think that if he's had several paroles revoked that they wouldn't let him out early again. I wonder if it's possible to sue a parole board for wrongfull death.
:banghead:

Some reporters need to learn how to write more clearly:
Police say Williams stabbed McEwen when he tried to stop him from stealing

My guess on what was meant:
"Police say Williams stabbed McEwen when McEwen tried to stop Williams from stealing ... "

Correct me if I'm wrong, trying to figure out the first part of rimfire's comment.

That's the way I read it as well cyclist.
But it shore ain't worded very well.

I think Rimfire just got the names mixed up - that's what I thought as well, given a quick read. But McEwen was the Samaritan; Williams is the multiply-paroled ex-con.

Yes, McEwen is the dead guy/good samaritan, Williams is the should-be-dead knife-wielding thug. This was all presented much more clearly on the local news last night. Whoever writes and/or types for the web site needs to go back to school and try again.

And I can't help but wonder if this story wouldn't read a whole lot differently if Mr. McEwen had a carry permit and a gun.

This brings up something I've been told by a friend of mine who's a CCW instructor and who had a misfortune of having to use his weapon on multiple occasions...

Who will you be attacked by? Most likely it will not be a kid and/or a young criminal. Those start off with non violent crimes such as break ins into empty homes etc. The ones who will most likely attack you and hurt you, are professional criminals, like the thug in this story. Multiple offenses. Time spent in the big house.

Of course there are exceptions to the rule. But it seams like the overwhelming majority of crimes could be prevented, by harsher punishments and more discipline in our judicial system.

What say you?

Death is one of the risks of intervening in a violent crime.

Other unpleasant possibilities include injury, arrest, conviction and jail time.

Hope TN has and uses the death penalty.

Bitmap... Yeah, we have it, but are so slow about using it that it's pretty much "Death by Old Age".

Last person I remember being executed here was on death row for 20 or 30 years before they finally gave him his injection. And there's one that I personally helped arrest about 10 years ago that's sister is currently filing appeals for him, even though he gave up and basically said "let's just get this over with". :fire:

Parole is an outdated system that needs to be eliminated completely. It's a promise to behave properly if let out early. And I have lost count of how many inmates I have seen returned to prison as parole violators. AZ also no longer allows parole for violent offenders, either.
I wish the good guy had eliminated the bad guy, instead of the other way around, because the wheels of justice will gind exceedingly slow to properly handle this violent predator.

A good reminder to mind your own business and let the police take reports and solve crimes; preventing them is dangerous work that I intend to avoid unless it is me or my immediate family in danger.

But it's our responsibility to help others in "bad" situations, armed or not. Criminals count on public apathy to continue their careers. Isn't it time we stood up to the BG's? I've gotten tired of turning my head and pretending they're not there..........I'm not a vigilante and am not advocating patrolling the streets looking to be a Good Samaritan, but if the situation evolves around you, then it's your turn to act.........

Tough call on this one. Years ago I did route deliveries from 8 PM to 1-2 Am.
I intervened in many convenience store robberies, assaults, burglaries, etc over four years. The police finally caught me one night and ASKED me to please stop before I got hurt in any of those circumstances.

Hard thing to just stop being a good guy.

Believe it or not, I think I've spotted the problem.

I wonder if it's possible to sue a parole board for wrongfull death.

Nope. Government always looks after the interests of government first, last, and always.

"All that is necessary for evil to triupmph is for good men to do nothing"

"we should all fear evil men. But there is an evil we should fear even more, and that is the indifferrence of good men."

If you see a violent crime in progress, you had better act. And not just because inaction is illegal in some places.

I have to say, this is really my primary reason for CCW. I'm not terribly concerned that a criminal is going to mug a 5'11" 180 pound physically fit 26 year old like myself. I don't fancy myself a vigilante or anything, just a citizen who believes it is time we stop letting criminals rule our society. I don't go looking for trouble, but I have no problem facing it if/when it finds me.

if i SAW and was in close vicinity to a violent crime in progress (especially if the victum is a 60 year old women) i don't know if i could live with myself if i didn't try to intervene. i could understand not getting invlved if i had charge of kids or something though.
