Heritage Rough Rider

I picked one of these up at a local pawn shop a couple months ago for the large sum of $50, and although I no longer own it I did like it quite a bit. It wasn't the most accurate and the 22mags were awfully loud out of it but for shooting cans it was great. Alot better than the 9 shot H&R I had after it.

Ya know, enough guys have thrown dirt on this little pistol, I think I'm going to have to get 1. The ones I've seen had like 6 or 7" barrels. But I saw 1 with a short barrel, and bird head grip. so maybe I'll get both.

Good onya, Ruger. I think I'm gonna grab another one too...the fugliest, cheapest one I can find. And then practice some metallurgical plating magic on it.

Or just take it to my local chrome shop...

Chrome with blue abalone grips? Dude, I think we're on to something. Could probably sell these for $600 a pop all day long here in Hell-A.

We'll call them Bling-a-nators......:D

I guess I'm just getting old. I didn't know you specified poor quality pot metal.
I have 2 blenders, a cake mixer, and a clothes iron, all made in the 60s, all pot metal, all still in service. I don't know how long I can go on with this, before you start to realize I'm razzing you.

yeah, but do you own any pot metal pots ?? ;)
milady won't allow it around here...
she likes AllClad alloy and me likes S&W steel guns
I think it's keen she enjoys those pricey pans, and she thinks it's keen I enjoy those pricey guns, go figger.

Still... I have before, and will again, recommend a RR for a wannabe shooter who really cannot afford else, as the lowest cost starter 22 revolver I know of; my grandson has one, gifted to him by someone else. He enjoys it, and that's good. But when we go to the range together, I make sure several S&W Ks come with us; He reminds to not forget 'em. :)

but for head shootin' south Georgia gators I would go with a 22 WMR cheapo single shot rifle; I already have too short arms !

Speaking of pots 'n pans, is plinking at hanging cast iron pans ok with rimfire ammo? Like beyond 25 yards or so? Or should I just start looking for my old aluminum pans?.....

well, you won't wear 'em out in a hurry, but I prefer them easy opening aluminum beer cans myself
(I like to know where the bullet is going after it hits the target, even with rimfire stuff)

I have plenty of 22 pistols, ( 3 Rugers), to use. It just winds me up after doing a couple whole pages of hat dance on a gun for being cheap when thats what its meant for. For that money I'll invent a use for it.

Mariachi! Chrome with blue abalone, or red coral, or Inca Carved Jade. No Got Mine! Indian Turquoise and silver grips!!! With a little Eagle and Rattlesnake Motif.+++

I dont know if Incas still carve jade, I dont know if we still got Incas?! I gotta noodle somemore on this.

I have a Rough Rider I picked up in 2007. It is not the nicest gun I own however it is accurate & works well for what it is. It has a black finish & fake pearl grips. More bling than I wanted but I was looking for a cheap .22 single action & it was the cheapest I could find.

Really enjoy my 6.5" model. I shoot Super Colibri from it a lot. Tonight I had to use it for pest control. It was 11:45 PM, and the Super Colibri didn't wake anyone. Of course we live out in the sticks a little, but no one in the house was woke.

rat/snake shot (better labeled as grasshopper shot) is unlikely to hurt any 22 barrel, but I never much cared to run it thru any revolver either, just on general principle
must have been an especially easy opening coke can

(besides that, it's about the only excuse I can think up to put a few rounds thru my HiStd 22 DA derringer once in a rare while, no forcing cone req'd)

Mariachi, the shot are lead, same as the bullets. they dont hurt revolvers and wont feed usually in automatics(whats left). My uncle shoots rattlesnakes on his ranch, everyday with them in a Colt. The plastic has no effect at all. They are cool. Enjoy.

I have owned two of them. Sold one for no real reason other than it just sat around doing nothing. Originally purchased to carry on trap lines. I figured if I dropped it in the creek or a pond who really cares. I have been surprised with its accuracy. Not a target gun by any means but for a plinker their great. All I buy is CCI mini mags and CCI maximags for rimfire ammo. I have fired in the neighborhood of 550-600 mini-mags and 200-250 maxi mags through mine without a problem.

Good cheap fun.

I now own a Heritage RR .22 with both cylinders with a 6.5" barrel. My experience with the gun has all been positive. It hits what I shoot at and is dependable. Aren't these the two most important qualities anyone wants in a gun? Everything else is just subjective. You use a gun to hit a target and if it does that without any problems that is the name of the game. Everything else is a matter of personal taste or opinion. I have had a new Ruger 22 convertible in the past. I bought the Heritage when I wanted a new SA .22. The Ruger is better finished but that does nothing for it's core mission, sending a bullet to hit the target you want to hit. A lot of times in these discussions people loose track of the original purpose of why they bought a firearm. Each to his own.
