i recently got a this new hrr from a large online retailer. i also have a 4.5” 9 shot model from 6-7years ago that is quite ok. i used it as a stash piece when staying with my late mom at her apartment, instead of a much better and more liked ruger single six. i wanted to try this longer barrel for better accuracy.

big disappointment. this recently made 6.5” case hardened roughrider is much rougher than my older 4.5” black one. i most certainly expect no roughrider to match a single six in quality but the older 4.5” hrr was decent enough at 1/3 the price of the rss. i just put about 70 rounds of cci quiet and standard through the 6.5”. it goes bang but is unpleasant feeling overall in the hand, not more accurate than the older 4.5” and i regret buying it.

i certainly wasn’t expecting anything remotely close to ruger quality but has anyone noticed a relative drop off in hrr quality with recent production?

Ive heard the opposite since Taurus bought them out.
I’ve got a 6” w/adjustable sights and .22wmr cylinder.
It shoots good, but of course it’s no Smith&Wesson.

Cleaning and shooting it will likely help!

it probably didnt help matters that at this shooting range session i brought an old ruger bearcat and single six along too, which made the new hrr feel that much more “off.”

Bummer! :( IMHO nothing is worse than going to the range with high hopes about a new gun...and going home disappointed with the gun and how it shoots (See my “pyrite” thread for my recent disappointment.)

I have no experience with the rough riders, are there any u tube tutorials on take down and action smoothing that you could try to hell smooth the a
revolver out?

Good luck and stay safe.
