Hey 1911 owners? Wet/dry, oil and/or grease?

I use about 5-7 drops of oil on my guns (1911s). Frankly they don't need to be run "wet" or all greased up like a buttered turkey and it's a bit of a myth that they need it.

If I was going some place humid or very dusty I might use a bit of grease on the rails. But other than that I'm not on a mission in the jungles of Borneo, up the Amazon, or fighting aliens in the frozen heck of a Siberian forest. Pretty much I'm not much more than a day away from a good cleaning.

Depends on intended use. My pocket guns that I carry without a holster get very little lube. If I am shooting a lot or on a hunting gun then more lube. The lube attracts a lot of dirt and debris. Plus the oil in chamber turns to carbon buildup quicker.

My Stainless and Parkerized guns seem fine with Mobile 1 which is what I use on all my guns. However the two cerakoted guns seem to run better with shooters choice grease on the rails.

I use Militec grease on the rails and the same brand oil and applied as per Militec instructions on a hot clean pistol.

The Colt gets that as does the Ruger P-90 with Aluminum frame. I have very little wear on the frame/slide interface. Both I have had for almost 20 years. Lost round count but its a lot. Have replaced weak recoil springs twice in both so thats mucho rounds.

The Para P12-45 gets Eds Red, lithium greas,SuperLube silicone food grade grease with PTFE or CLP or really whatever is around. Even used the oil off my trucks dipstick once with no problem shooting all day.

They all seem to work fine. I like the Militec as you can wipe it down to a very thin film and it does not run and ruin my dress shirts like oil does.

In short I have used everything but Sperm Whale oil over the decades.
