As I re-read and listened to the audio SC arguments of Heller etal, my thoughts went to positive indicators for the repeal of the D.C. ban and how we can cause the same in Chicago and Cook County. I don't live in Chicago but am in Crook co. and wonder if we can organize a lawsuit to challenge the Chicago, Morton Grove, Wilmette etc. bans. Who whould be the perfect plaintiff? I know one gun owner that received a letter from the village attorney of Willmette, advising that they (village gov't) knew he was a FOID holder and that guns were unwelcome in the village and he would be prosecuted if found to be in possession of (my wording, their thought). Would he have standing, He moved and may have suffered financial loss as a result of the policy. Does anyone know a gunowner arrested for possession or transportation? I know about Joan Bruner but that was Macon County. How can/should we get the ball rolling? What about $? Do we have a plan or am I alone on this?

I would hazard a guess that somebody at ISRA or NRA has already thought of this. Send money to them and let thier legal dogs fight it.
Meanwhile, call, write, fax your reps and state senators...

What made Heller a good plaintiff? My understanding is that he is simply an upstanding citizen of D.C. who challenged the constitutionality of their ban. Granted, the fact that he is an armed security guard in D.C. does make it a little more interesting.

Having said that, I wonder if some of the victims who survived the NIU shooting, or families of those that didn't, could sue the state or the university for prohibiting concealed carry while failing to provide a safe environment.

Does anyone know why the Heller case changed names? Didn't it used to be the Parker case?

Folding pocket knives are next. No kidding, a friend just showed me a list of current laws pending before IL legislators that shows pocket knives are on the chopping block, also. Right along with clips over 10 rounds, .50 cals, and much more.

Lunacy. Government run amuck. Can't fix the roads or their finances, putting the state in even more debt -- but they can legislate our personal possessions away. Southern IL (St. Clair County) now has a 5-man task force going around writing VERY big tickets for people burning a cardboard box in their back yard, even when in it was in a burn barrel. The district attorney doesn't want to prosecute any of their citations. That's a great use of a two-man car with gas over $3 a gallon, given the state's current financials.

What else is new?

Our county health department thinks it will start issuing tickets for the no-smoking ban. I wonder when they stopped being nurses and became cops.

On the plus side, the county board adopted one of those resolutions that stated that they would not allow infringements of gun rights by our Governor.
So we have that going for us up here in Hancock.

Why Parker went byby....

The court found that Parker and the rest of the original cast had no standing but Heller, who had been denied a permit and was an armed security guard who was not allowed to "keep" his duty weapon at home, did. He also lived in a pretty poor (sic) part of D.C. where BG's fired at his home and bullet holes illustrated his "need" for self-defense. This confluence of facts made him an ideal candidate.
I want to know/ plan for our suits. To start/continue the search for a litigant, an attorney,funds, a plan...etc.
Lets start here and build a model "client".
He/she (wouldn't that work!) must have no criminal bakground,
be FOID holder,
Chicago resident
have been denied/attacked?
etc, please elaborate!

IIRC, I believe that "clients" are already waiting in the wings pending the outcome of Heller.....
