Hey Kansas!

Once we set a monthly date for a shoot, I will put a geocache out there for your amusement!

Since this thread has been going on for almost half a year, and we cannot decide on a place/date to get together, I have lost interest. If we can't decide by now, I guess it just won't happen.

I've been watching the post...

but I never added another reply. :scrutiny:

Very well.
I propose the second saturday of every other month. All in favor speak your part and all against do the same. Keyhole has final say on the go/nogo if we can nail down a date.

You'll notice I said every other month; this is my idea, if you do not like it then by all means speak up and tell us why! I figure it will be easier to work out something like this if there is a significant amount of time between each event.

Should be no problem, but I understand how hard it is to find a date that all can work around. The second Saturday of the month is the day the Junior Club meets, but that would be ok, as the more the merrier. If it got too crowded, could move to one of the other ranges, ( have 3 there ).

Sounds good. All as can make it will, the rest can try next shoot. I like the idea of sharing the range with the juniors. Let em try some different stuff.

Any quirks about transport laws in KS a Missouri boy should know about?

My FFL says to keep the guns in the front of the vehicle with me, out of sight and unloaded. Keep ammo and mags, speedloaders etc separate, and in the trunk of your car/bed of your truck. If you happen to get pulled over explain to the officer that you have weapons in your vehicle, because you are on the way to the shooting range.

Thats funny you should ask, Kansas just passed a law to standardize their firearm transportation laws, because they differ vastly from county to county and town to town. The new law goes into effect Jul 1st.

I'm sure if your transporting them unloaded and in seperate areas of your vehicle then you should not have problems at all though (similar to what mrhuckins stated).

Good information mapanggulo! Although far from being able to CCW in Kansas yet, some steps are finally being made here to give firearms owners some more leeway. I'm guessing it won't be long now before Kansas follows suit with most other states, and passes some type of CCW laws for the average law-abiding citizens.

BTW, welcome to THR mapanggulo.

Not to throw a wrench in the June plans, but the weekend of the 11th
& 12th, THR member Sully will be doing a class at the range, mostly LEO stuff. It'll be 24 hours in 2 days, so I'll be kinds busy shooting then. Other than that weekend, I would say it would be great.

About a 2.5 hour trek from Wichita, on US400, and then north on 69hwy. Good roads. The range pretty much runs itself, and operates whenever there is enough daylight to see by. Lets see if we can get this thing going. I know that there are others who would like to have a get together, and enjoy busting some caps. I'm sure that some of the pics would even make it online!

Keyhole

Yep

I would do it on the 11th as long as it wasn't too far from the Wichita area.

We do not at this time have any gongs or metal targets on the rifle range,

I have some portable home-made jobbies I can bring if you are interested.
3/4" plate, but work better at longer distance since they are not tempered.

FMJ 8mm won't penetrate at 200 yds.

whats the point of gongs or metal targets? Are they like reusable paper targets or something?

(Near) Instant feedback for the confirmation of high speed connection. :D

Not to mention that its just cool to shoot something besides paper!

Keyhole, paper targets only?
And just to double check, our being out there will not interfere with the class?

The rifle range should be available, as we will be on the pistol range.

We do shoot steel, but like was said before, we don't have any on the rifle range, just the pistol. If'n it was later in the year, we have great supplies of hedge apples to shoot. They really explode when hit with ballistic tipped .223!

Or something. They are mostly for fun with "less than tack drivers". Rapid fire with an old boltie on a plate that happens to be about the size of my shirt has a high fun factor. To me at least. For serious work paper is best.

I reckon that the target frames would suport the weights fine.
Are there some more members that would make the trek here on the 11th?

Coule try to set it up later, but any time fine's by me. Free time is hard to come by anymore, but I can get most worked out.

What time?

Are you interested in the steel gongs? I'll bring em if you want.

I'm personally more interested in trying out/checking out different guns than doing a lot of shooting. With a range outside my back door just shooting I can do anytime.

I'll bring anything I have that someone wants to check out.

Turk Mauser w/ Mojo sight. Without Mojo.

Most interested in trying some AR-15s.

If it is before noon, are there eating joints close, or should we come prepared to kill something on site?

Since I'll be out there for a class all day, anytime is fine by me. I'll not be able to participate in the "Kansas HR shoot", but maybe I can sneak over during the class. There's a convient store about 5 miles south, and that's the closest place to get grub. It's pretty good, ate a lot of lunches there on duty.
Have to be carefull about killing stuff on site. We do have deer and turkeys crossin the range from time to time. All that's outta season! :)

Oh yeah, if'n your comin in on 400 hwy, run north at US69 (Pittsburg), and once north of Arma, ( Kevin's Country Corner on the left ), the range is 5 miles north. Look for a sign on the west side of the road. The range is 3/4 west of 69. Map on the clubs site.
