The other evening, a guy asked me how many .45s I owned. I couldn’t remember exactly.
With this pic on my phone, I won’t have to depend on my memory!

Nice collection. Is that a Ballester Molina in the middle of the top row?

In a recent bout of "paring for pragmatics" temporary insanity, I sold my 6" Anaconda and my Border '92 lever. <sniff>
I think I might need more revolvers.

Bannockburn,

Yeah, it’s a Ballester Molina. Good shooter with hardball, not so great with modern JHPs.

The EAA Witness second from the left, top row is a safe queen. It often locks the slide open with rounds still in the mag and the obnoxious “gunsmith” at EAA refused to fix it. On the phone, he accused my of shooting hot handloads (not true, and I hadn’t said a thing about ammo), told me my warranty was void and hung up. I’ve since learned that he does that sort of thing a lot!

Three of the 1911s are Argentine pistols. I rebuilt the top right one with a bunch of Wilson parts, installed new sights and grips and slicked up the action. It’s very accurate.

Lower left is a partially customized shooter. Someday I’ll get around to finishing it. Top left is unchanged.

Second from the right, top row is a LW Commander clone I built in 1975. It was my carry gun for several years. After untold thousands of rounds, it developed a crack in the frame, but it still shoots very well.

The suppressed XD with the C-More is my home-defense-against-raging-zombies gun. :what:

I thought the two on opposite ends of the top row and the one left of the XD might be Argentine 1911s.

Is that a CZ97 on the top row with the extended barrel?
Close, it’s an EAA Witness. They did a limited run a dozen years ago of a steel-frame, Wonder finish Witness .45 with a full-size frame, compact slide and optional ported slide and barrel. The custom grips are Hawaiian Koa.

The ports caused some problems. Mine had ports. A friend bought one without the ports and we shot them side-by-side. The ports did reduce muzzle rise noticeably, but they didn’t always play well with certain bullets.

Regular FMJs? No problem.

Cast lead? The ports stripped lead from the bullets and plated the sides if the front sight. Not a big deal, since it was easy to brush the lead off.

Plated lead bullets? The ports sliced thin slivers of plating off and spit them back into the shooter’s face. Having tiny metallic needles stuck in your face can be distracting when you’re trying to shoot good groups. :uhoh:

I bought a standard length barrel and installed it. Besides solving the spitting problem and giving me a slight velocity boost, it just looks cool!

I loved this gun. I used it for CC, IDPA and playing at the range. Then it started locking the slide back with rounds still in the chamber. EAA’s “gunsmith” Paul not only wouldn’t give me any help, he accused me of causing the problem by shooting hot handloads. Then he told me my warranty was void and hung up.

Please don’t post any advice on how to fix the problem. I’ve tried everything. If someone thinks they can fix it, I’ll be happy to sell the gun for a good price.

NOTE: Someone told me that EAA has changed hands. If so, their legendary, terrible customer service may have improved. I’ll believe it when I read the reports.

I've got a Colt 1991 Commander. It's a little lonely, as it is the only pony in the stable.

I do, however, have a couple spare magazines.

Japle, I thought it odd with the extended barrel and the short look of the slide.

If that one bugs you due to the ammo issues you might consider an actual CZ. The one I shot was very nice. Not nice enough for me to expand my .45acp holdings but if I decided to add just one more .45acp it would likely be the CZ97.

As it sits now I've got a Tanfoglio Witness (EAA to you lot south of the 49th)1911, a Remington R1 Enhanced and a S&W Model 1917 Brazilian contract revolver. I'm considering selling the Remington and buying something a touch more upscale such as either a mid range STI or a Dan Wesson.

The Tanfoglio I'll keep as a match shooting "beater" gun since it shoots pretty well and I don't worry about scuffing it at all. And best of all it's very tolerant of just about any sort of ammo. And that is not the case with the Remington

mdThanatos -- that's the only pic I have of my Commander. However, to sort of answer your question, the Commander is only there as an accent.

Well the S&W Governor won't win any beauty contests but it does have certain blunt instrument quality to it. And nothing wrong with the Detonics either; great little .45 back when there weren't many downsized 1911s to choose from.
