Hi cap mags for a Remington 7400/7600?

The whole "AR15's selling out in NO" thread got me to thinking...

I don't have the smack (or desire) to get an AR-15 or AK. I'm willing to learn the manual of arms for a 1911, but just don't have any interest in an assault rifle. However....

I _do_ have a early 60's Remington 760 Gamemaster in 30.06 that is like an extension of my arm. With several hundred rounds for it. On the hypothetical "Bad Day", though, I'm thinking my pair of 4 round clips isn't going to cut it.

I've seen these 10 round mags for a Remington rifle (7400/7600 and types). First was the Eagle plastic jobs, now there is an all steel one made by Triple K that can be had for around $25.

Has anybody ever used one of these? I'm thinking it would be a nice solution to needing a little more ammo capacity without having to go invest in something new. Figure 3-4 of these and leave 'em in the safe unless/until I really need them.

I understand the higher rate of fire would heat the barrel and accuracy would suffer some, but I'm not looking for a durable assault weapon. I'm looking to turn my favorite hunting rifle into a battle rifle, if TEOTWAWKI arrives.

I have not used the triple K, but I have used the ramline polymer in 30-06 and it worked fine. Check Gun broker,Action arms, CDNN investments.

"...don't have any interest in an assault rifle..." An AR15 isn't an assault rifle anyway. It's a commercial copy of a battle rifle.
"...into a battle rifle..." There's more to it than a larger mag. Starting with far more robustness than any hunting rifle. Hunting rifles aren't made to hold up to extensive rapid fire.

Rem 7600 series is one of my favorites!
It's not a battle rifle, but I try to avoid battles!
(I think the 7615 is changing people's minds about this
rifle's versatility).


Yes, I've used all of the magazines available.
I had one Triple K that wasn't completely stamped
and the catch would not engage.
The Eagle mags are OK, I haven't broken one (yet).

My favorites are made by D&E, they are steel and hold 12 rounds.

My brother has a Remington 7600 in .30-06. He picked up on of the plastic eagle 10rd after he got the rifle. He's used it but not much. He did have a slight problem he bought some .30-06 FMJ surplus that were just a slight to long to load in the eagle magazine. They would load in the factory four round magazine.

I have the same rifle and have three of the regular mags. I didn't know anyone made high caps for it.

What strikes me about your question is I'm wondering what scope you have on the rifle. I have a fixed four power scope that would not be too handy at close range. Maybe you should invest in a used Remington 870 for that.

Thanks Justus, I'll have to look for those D&E's. Haven't heard of them yet. Any line on where one might get them?

Green Country, I don't know about yours, but mine has a 2x7 Leopold on it (33mm) and is plenty good out to 250 yards.

Not really planning to open up on a crowd with this thing. More in line with a discouragement of a small pack of varmints in the neighborhood during a severe weather event/etc. Thinking that this rifle would work quite well, just looking to not have to change mags after five shots in such a situation...

Was thinking of getting some Triple K's from Cabelas', due to their return policy, I could send back any that weren't made right / didn't cycle properly in mine.

That's a good plan with the Cabela's magazines.
Numrich has the Triple Ks sometimes too.

The D&E mags are hit and miss.
I bought a bunch of them new off ebay the night
before their magazine ban took effect.

I've seen them on the Guns America and Auction Arms sites,
but there aren't any up there now.

I have one of the Eagle magazines for my 7600 in .280 and it works fine. I seem to remember mixed reviews back in the day, but last time I saw them for sale, they were so cheap ($8?) they were certainly worth a try.

I wasn't questioning your long range shooting, but your up close and personal shooting, such as inside your house or on your front lawn.

I shoot 3 gun matches, and I can tell you that people with scopes with any magnification at all often have trouble with close in targets. 2 power is not too bad, so maybe you would be fine, but I'd practice a little with it. I know that shooters with a four power scope really struggle at the close- in targets in 3 gun matches. It seems like anything over about 1.5 starts to cause problems close in.

the eagle mags work fine for me

i have the pump 760 and it functions fine, little iffy on seating it in the mag well sometimes but 10 rds of 30-06 is nice to have. I have 4 mags and all worked as needed. Why oh why you say? Hogs and lots of them where I used to hunt. mag changes while swarmed suck. Had an episode where I was swamped by a few my friend was so nice to have peeved off with a 9mm.
I tried to check on eagle international for you but don't see them listed. If I can find a link I'll post. as cheap as mine were I could afford to drop and reload and never go back for the mag. (not that I would do that though unless in a bad spot) 10$ a piece I think.
