Fellow gun owners, I would like some feedback on the Hi-Point 9mm 995 carbine. I'm thinking of purchasing one just for home protection.
Thanks,

A lot of threads exist on this very subject here on "The High Road", but generally speaking, the consenus is:

Ugly, inexpensive, functional arms. 10-round magazines only. If it breaks, Hi-Point fixes it free..doesn't matter if you are first owner, or if it is 'previously owned' by many folks.

My 1/50th of $1...

Not the most AP {Aesthetically Pleasing} firearms*** out there, but they go Bang! on request every time, and put the lead where you aim. What more can you ask of a sub-$250 carbine? I don't own any Hi-Point arms, but I have shot most of their models at some time over the last few years. (I am part of an informal shooting group...call ourselves 'The Cheap Galoots') waiting for Hi-Point to release the .45ACP carbine...

***read as "Wow, that is one pig-butt ugly gun!"

very reliable, surprisingly accurate, and cheap to boot.

ugly, maybe. but if thats a reason you dont get one then your missing our do to something so petty.

***read as "wow, these things are sick" and can be had for 150$

I have one I got Broke at a gunshow for $70. Back sight was missing some parts, called them up, and they overnighted the parts to me. Probably the best customer service there is.

Gun itself shoots good, kinda heavy trigger. Stock is kinda ackward to get used to, but not bad. For somethign that can be had for under $200 new, its a good, fun gun.

Oh, prettyness isnt something that comes with this gun. Fit and finish make a Romanian AK look like a top end gun, but it is a great gun.

You won't be unhappy with one of these. They're ugly, trigger's stiff, etc. However, they are FUN and ACCURATE to shoot. I think one of these would be just fine for Home defense, tin can plinking, Elk Hunting (just kidding there folks), and paper punching.

These are GREAT little rifles and a lot of fun to shoot.

I shoot mine left handed. No problems so far. I've put about 200 rounds through it, both off hand and from a bench. The bolt is operated from the left side so it works out ok for me.

Thanks Rsst, I may have to pick that beastie up ('course then I'll have an excuse for an ATI stock and buying LOTS of 9mm luger.)

Mine is nice and light, and tons of fun to shoot. As far as accuraccy goes, you can hit what you aim at. A very good value, if a bit lacking in polish (however, that's ussually the main reason for a gun being ridiculously expensive anyway).

I find the profile-angle pictures to be hideous, but I actually thing it looks pretty cool from the angle that you see it from when you have it shouldered. It is also a suprisingly comfortable gun, mine fits me like a glove.

Oh, and I love the sights. Aperature sights with a hooded front post and the rear is screwdriver adjustable for windage and elevation. Adjusting them is a snap, NOT so for Kel-Tec's carbine!

9mm carbine

This sounds interesting to me. I am planning to pick up a Glock 19 this week and buy a bunch of 9mm ammo. I've been contemplating buying a 9mm carbine so I can standardize on ammo purchase. The Kel Tec seems a good route since it will accept the Glock magazines.
Are the Hi-Point mags readily accessable and cost friendly? My intent was not to hijack this thread but wish to learn.

Thank you.

Carbine

OK, I just answered my own question as I found their website. Mags are $20 list on the website so perhaps cheaper through distribution.

Thanks.

The only time mine ever jammed was when i tried to shoot lead bullets from it. The nose dug in the feed ramp.

Get the gun, they are worth the money. They are a PITA to do a detail clean on. But they shoot a long time between cleanings.

I realy like the sights. The rear peep is the same size as the front hood. You can look through the hole and put the post under the target and fire. Its easy to make snap shots and get hits.

I like pistol calibers rifles for home defense. Light recoil, low muzzle blast and easy to handle.

My shooting buddies son killed his first deer with a Marlin 9 Camp Carbine. Went right through and the deer dropped in 40 yards.

Hey, you know...just wait 'till something breaks on it and they'll give you 2 free mags!

(Ask me how I know. Got 8 mags sitting in my drawer.)
