To round out the collection I'm considering a Hi Power. Probably won't be able to afford a genuine Browning, looking for a range gun not a collector. What about the clones; FEG, Charles Daily etc? Point me in the right direction!

I've both a FEG and FM HiPower clones. Both shoot well and have been reliable. The FEG has a better finish. The FEG trigger is heavier but crisper, the FM trigger is lighter but creeps. Neither should be over about $350.

No experience with the CD HiPower clone. Has better safety lever and sights, but has gotten mixed reviews. I've a CD 1911 that has been very good approaching 4000 rounds thru it. A few minor problems initially that I easily fixed and should have been caught by QA QC if such can be done on a $400 1911. Over on 1911forum.com little good is said about CD customer service.

If you can afford it try for an FN. They make Browning's Hi-Powers just don't make the ones with their names on it quite as pretty but they are cheaper. Still a "real" Hi-Power without paying for the name . . . so much.

Edit: CDNN has them starting at $350

Old Lawman in this Board is selling a Mark III HP for $450 ?....

I saw that. "Extra" funds won't come through for a couple of months though.

Find this gun and buy it!

Where do I find it?? Went to FN's site but didn't see it. Wish I had the $$$ for one of their five-sevens though!

I understand. I can't figure how they get off charging that kind of cash for a gun with so many parts made out of plastic. OOPS! :uhoh: Excuse me. POLYMER. Actually, I've kind of glad. My range prohibits anything over 1600 fps, so I'd have to go to a range where I'd have to pay extra for range time.

If you order from CDNN, make sure you order the single-action hi-power. FN called a double action verison a hi-power also. They're cheap right now (maybe discontinued?). Last genuine FN HP I saw at a gunshow was around $500 new. Still much cheaper than what Browning's were selling for. Personally, I want the Browning Practical (2-tone), but the damn thing is $600 when I can find one. Sorry, I don't want to spend that much, but I'll probably end up doing.

I do have an Arcus 94. Nice gun. Reliable. It's got that 2-tone look that I like. Sights are considerably better than my FEG clone. Leather is a bit of a problem since this is not a direct clone, the triggerguard is squared and the slide is a bit more full-bodied. I've found it's a tight fit in a Browning BDM holster and that it fits rather nicely in a CZ-75 holster. If you get this one, you'll have to stand there and try out holsters since every maker is just a little bit different in fit for the same gun.
