I have two of these pistols. Well, actually, I have one Hi-Standard Duramatic M101 dated to 1955, and a Sears JC Higgins Model 80 which appears to date by SN to 1956 (yet Sears apparently didn't start selling these till 1957).

Anyway, my question is about ammo. I haven't shot the Duramatic that I've had because I kept reading I should only shoot standard velocity 22lr through it - and I typically only keep high-velocity around. But today I picked up the JC Higgins Model 80, which included the original manual. And the manual specifically states: "Your Model 80 uses hi-speed or regular ammunition in .22 long rifle caliber."

So, thoughts on whether I would be risking excess wear or frame damage with high-velocity ammo?

Thanks

The Sears Model 80 type 1 began selling in early to mid 1956.

All High Standard manuals stated the either standard or high velocity ammunition was suitable which for a small number of guns was not exactly true.

The Dura-Matic / Sears Model 80 / Kroydon Pro Blue were not models that have a history of frame cracking as some High Standard pistols have.

However the frame area where the slide impacts the frame is relatively small and is subject to battering.

I would recommend that you use standard velocity ammunition.

no real reason to shoot HV unless you are hunting. SV is more accurate anyway.
