460,
I don't recall anything like the extreme negativity people are showing this new Ruger & the new Colt Cobra in past years on various gun forums.
Two guns that have been requested & hoped for for years are now here, and look at what we get.

99% of it seems to center around "It's not what I want", or "I can't understand why anybody'd want one (because it's not what I want)."

Few of us go to these extremes in knocking other peoples' preferences in a new gun, why the incessant "But- it ain't a MAGNUM!" here?

Denis

you must not read the 327 magnum threads.....haha

It's actually what YOU and a bunch of "old timers" want (myself included)... I believe it's because those two guns are closer to the "classic" feel of revolvers and people (especially the young ones) are spoiled by S&W with their "magnumising" of every platform imaginable. Not to mention that most of the new offerings of revolvers are looking as if were designed by someone who has to look in the dictionary for words like "aesthetics", "subtle" and etc...

Nope, I don't look at the 327 threads, I have no interest in the caliber.

But- you don't see me repeatedly jumping all over it knocking those who do like it, or asking them to justify why they like it. :)

Well, respectfully, I'd submit the notion that age has nothing to do with it. I'm 36, so not a kid by any means, but not an "old timer" either. I did not grow up in a gun friendly family, and as a result I have only been shooting guns for a decade, and handguns for about 8 years. However, I have a deep appreciation for classic revolvers, non magnum revolvers, and for shooting a cartridge that a gun is chambered for rather than always requiring a magnum chambering.

I definitely enjoy and appreciate magum revolvers, and I don't personally have any issue with owning a current S&W that has a lock, but I definitely prefer the classic guns, feel they offer more value based on more carefully fit components, and understand that you don't always need a high velocity bullet to do what a moderate velocity bullet can do.

All young folks aren't the same, just like all "old timers" aren't the same.

I was not referring to people of old age, but as a joke to somebody who prefers classic (outdated, obsolete) revolvers. See, I don't have any problems with people liking different guns, but like DPris, I don't like it when people start bashing on some gun just because it did not met their expectations.

Why would someone want a 44 Special revolver, just get a 44 Magnum version and you can shoot all the 44 Special you want.

Because there is something special about shooting 44 Special in a gun chambered for 44 Special.
