Does anyone hide firearms such as handguns around the house just in case you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom or something, and your shotgun is in the bedroom?

I have heard of some people hiding a handgun or 2 somewhere in the house such as some hiding one above the ceiling tile in their basement. Does anyone else do this?

I am not a big fan of hiding anything. The good hiding places are all known to children and burglers.

I do not live in a nice part of town and do this throughout my house. True, criminals might know where to look, but I would guarantee they are not going to overlook a gun cabinet. I do not have any kids yet so I dont have to worry about that either. The bread box in the kitchen is a good place that I use. Also under the mattress incase I am woke up by an intruder. Behind the towels in the closet. I wouldnt think most burglars would steal towels. I have also heard of people using guitar or violin cases. you could always get a fake book to hide one in like they do in movies. A drop cieling could work but if you needed it quickly you might not have fast access.

I would be concerned with what my state of mind/mental capacity would be in the event of a sudden need to find that firearm. Just to maintain continuity of training, you should carry the firearm on your person. This would allow you to draw the firearm quickly, and even more quickly if you already practice that kind of draw for CCW or duty carry, whatever the case may be.

Since I can not carry at work, and do not always rush directly to my safe when I get home in the evening, I keep one hidden in the house so I'll have a gun available if ever needed on a work day after hours.

Other days I carry, and the gun stays with me until I go to bed ... then it's on the nightstand.

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

I have stash safes scattered about the house, with loaded weapons inside 'em. Does that count?

I'd secure them in some locking pistol enclosures like GunVault (preferably mounted to the wall or another surface because they are easy to walk off with).

Rather than stashing guns I carry while at home. I am thinking of putting a GunVault upstairs for my wife when I'm not at home. We have two GunVaults and a Rifle cabinet downstairs.

With the speed which things go downhill I have serious doubt about the downstairs enclosures being useful but one upstairs with extra mags, and an extra handgun could come in handy for someone already upstairs.

A guy I know passed away last year. 2 weeks later, a squirel chewed on the sevice wire and lit the house on fire. he son found over 25 guns hidden all over the house. Wouldnt have wanted to be the fireman.
(I'm still waiting for the list of hanguns)
The moral of the story? I don't really know.

I have loaded handguns and/or long guns stashed in every room in my house in which I spend time, including the bathroom. My sons, now ages 21 and 24, were in their early teens when I started this. I'm sure I will make adjustments when and if grandkids enter the picture.

Show to watch, "It Take a Thief". Everything gets overturned, what you think is a good hiding place will get checked out.

I stick mine in the fridge or freezer - when I'm not in the house. Semi-decent hiding place for handguns, and the cold steel is a relief from normal TX weather.

I have 1 in the bathroom and one on my person when at home (getting used to carrying for when I get my permit in) and it goes on the night stand when I'm sleeping. I also have one in the bathroom, I typically done carry to and from the bathroom or anytime in those late night restroom breaks.

Um, could you tell us a little about your neighborhood?
I would think that leaving an unsecured firearm in an un-occupied
dwelling is a dubious practice. Having said that, there was once
a .38 up the chimney in far-away California, but the place was not
left nobody-here regularly or for long. Some folk will leave a piece
in the dishwasher, but this is only recomended for the truly
stainless. :what: Oven? Consider the possibilities :what: :what:

i might or might not

living alone is great, there might be a holster sewen into a chair, maybe somethings secured under the couch, maybe that copy of "a farewell to arms" is really a hollow case. but who knows.

Hiding guns in my house is fairly unnecessary - i carry my gun on my person when i am home and have one that is always nearby my bed. The 642 can be holstered to my boxers (loose ones, at that) and not sag or fall off because it's so light, so it's with me all the time, even at 3am when i get up to go to the bathroom.
When i'm not at the house, the one that is by my bed gets locked up and the other either goes with me or is on someone else in the house. I have been considering stashing a gun on my property, outside my house, however, in case i come home unarmed for whatever reason and find BG's already present at/in my house. Not that i'd run in the front door shooting...but i'd prefer to be armed and outside my house on the phone w/ 911 rather than be unarmed outside my house on the phone w/ 911. Leaving guns all over the house tends to result in the possibility of acquaintences or thieves having easy access to them.

I know a couple of guys who claim they do hide. Both hide the same type of handgun throughout the house, for example, one says he has nothing but Models 65 and 66 S&W revolvers, with same grip styles on all. Also claims he stores his hide-out revolvers with one HKS speedloader and a Bianchi Speed Strip.

i can't carry on campus, which is where i unfortunately spend the majority of my life these days...

so i have a big safe for all the guns but i do have one small touch safe right near the front door to my house (in the house, of course) so if i get into my house and the vibe is wrong (like all the dogs are dead or something), i'll grab that and get out of dodge.

I have a gun hidden in every room in my house...

I carry a concealed Kel-Tec P-3AT on my person 24/7.:D

Any firearms in our house are either in the safe, the handgun lockbox, or on my or my wife's person or within arm's reach. We have young children (7 and 5) and aren't about to leave guns where they could find them.

The other thing is, if someone tries to break in and your fight-or-flight reflex kicks in, if you have several guns stashed in creative places that aren't nearby, you are liable to either (1) forget where the closest one is or (2) fumble retrieving it, especially if it's in deep concealment somewhere. I guess you could mitigate that with practice, but I'd focus more on secure, fast access in one spot, and/or a CCW if your situation would suggest it.

My buddy is whacked, he owns a shop and does all of my perfomance work on my 97 Z28 I race. Anyway, he has AK's , automatic handguns, 45's , 9mm's all over the place lol? I borrowed his truck once and went to find the radar detector I hid under the seat but pulled out a hnadgun instead in traffic:eek: . I asked if he was going to tell me about the loaded gun under the seat? He has had some issues where as a businees man he needs to be armed.

Not guns (can't do that over here;) ) but knives, batons, spears, coshs etc... they are all over the place:)

Some times I forget where I put them though and go to put a new one there and an old one jumps out at me:D

This all started years ago when I lived at home with my disabled mother, I put batons round the home so she could defend herself in case there was a break in whilst I was out.
