High Noon Split Decision

Hi, folks. I recently ordered a High Noon "Split Decision" for my SR9c and I received it today.

My first reaction was it is as advertised: thin, light and (best of all) inexpensive.

But, when I tried to insert my gun, I am very disappointed. See attached pix.

You will notice that the trigger guard will not fully slip into the holster, even with the tension screw loosened all the way out, just so that's holding onto the nut. The second pic shows that the tension screw is not centered behind the trigger guard.

I've not purchased a fitted leather holster before. Are these issues that will "wear in" or do I need to contact the company about this?

Well, I can't tell you much just by looking at pictures.

But in general, hand fitted leather holsters are tight when brand new and will loosen up with use to "just right".

But, for them to do that, you have to be able to get the gun in it to start with.

Maybe you are just not being forceful enough?

Try twisting the gun in the holster until the back welt lines up with the trigger-guard and then try to force it in. You may have to bend the holster welt by force as well to get everything in line where it belongs.

If it still simply won't go in, then I would call High-Noon and see if they sent you the right holster for an SR9c.

I've seen a similar problem on another forum. A High Noon rep on the forum initially had the same recommendation as rcmodel. After some discussion and posting of pictures the rep suggested sending the holster back.

High Noon fixed the problem (either new holster or fixed the original, I can't remember) and the turn around was pretty quick. The poster had new pictures and the holster looked just like you would have expected it to look. He was happy in the end.

Give them a call. They have a very good guarantee.

Unfortunately, I did try to call and their answering service said they will be doing inventory and, as such, will not be placing orders or responding to calls before the middle of the month.

I send an email with the pix, just in case someone checks emails over a cup of coffee.

I crammed the gun into the holster this evening to try to stretch the leather a bit. it fits...sort of. It just seems a shade too small. Looking at the Split Decision's pic (using a Glock) the entire trigger guard is covered. Even shoving the SR9c into the leather, it's still somewhat exposed. Granted: different guns could have different "seating" in the holster. I'll see what they say.

Dribble water inside the leather, make sure the entire inside is wetted. then slip the gun inside two plastic baggies. Insert all the way. Leave overnight. Check in the morning for fit. Repeat next night. My first High Noon was very tight. After a few treatments like that, it was a sweet fit.

That's a shame, Q. Looks like they might've sent you the wrong one. I use a High Noon Bare Asset for a glock or two and love it. It fit snug but actually FIT right out of the box and has formed to glove my gun nicely.

I'd say sending them the pics you showed us, as you said you did, would probably inspire them to accept a return and send you a proper holster.

Hope they can assist you with it. I truly love their products.

Update

Received an email from High Noon last evening.

Hi Q,

You are not pushing hard enough to seat it. Use some muscle and PUSH HARD and twist the gun to seat it. It’s a perfect fit.

The leather will stretch. If does fit, you just have to PUSH hard and TWIST and push and twist hard so the gun will seat.

I had read the pamphlet but to me it seemed exceptionally tight. I crammed the gun in the holster last night and will try it this morning. I might try their other suggestion of putting some plastic wrap around the gun and reinserting it in the holster - it adds a couple thousandths to the girth of the gun, letting the leather stretch just a bit more.

I apologize for jumping to conclusions and insinuating a problem from High Noon.

Hi Q,

I have the Hidden Ally for my Keltec PF9, and it was a tight fit (plastic bag overnight made it perfect), but the gun WENT IN the first time. I think if your gun doesn't even go in with some effort, something is wrong.

I am happy with my Hidden Ally, but in your case, it seems the holster is not even close, so I would return it.

I wore it today. Can't say it's love at first try. I'm going to commit to it all week and see how it goes.

At 4pm today, I was wishing I had put the $30 toward a Comp-Tac of Supertuck instead.
