10x glass, shot off sandbags off a bench. the flyer is the flyer, there are 5 shots in the main group.

the group is unmodified, the target is cut, but that is fine. as long as it is the same group. be honest. the black dot is not visible because the rifle was not fully zeroed.
rifle weighs 10 pounds. no custom, not the best group, but not too bad. will resubmit better groups.

Looks like fun to me!

I'm assuming that we can use higher power scopes set on 17x or less on the honor system?

Thanks for setting it up.

yeah, just be honest. Mine will probly be on 6 or 7 getting ready for deer and coyote hunts.
no problem.- fun to me too.
i might get a better group tomorrow at the range. gonna try some bulk 165 grain .308 hollowpoints. they are selling them in packs of 100 i think for 60 dollars. still gotta pick them up tomorrow, thank god for dicks sporting goods. edit becuase I read the post and realized how odd if looked to read. ahah

Good luck on that better group - the bar is already pretty high for the rest of us.

Do you want targets scored using On Target? Might be easier to score. (I still need to figure out how to use a bit better anyways, and this will give me practice.)

if you want, Im still the judge in the end.
Im sure that Zac or Zak or whatever guy will show up with a little .23" 5 shot.
haha.
I'm not that good, im sure someone will beat me, heck, I'm only a 14 year old using a tapered barrel rifle. its not a lightweight though.
good luck. My best luck has been with Hornady ammo, need to try something different.

Shot these 5rd groups working up loads for my Rem700 LTR .223:) I'll try to get out and actually shoot a target for the Match

Good luck everyone.

Working on a target load - think I found it. 174gr .311 diameter Sierra Match King over 40.0 gr Varget.

Yesterday - 100 yards indoor range 1942 Izhevsk Mosin Nagant 91/30, Advanced Rifle Parts no gunsmithing mount, BSA Contender 3-12 X 40 scope set to 12 power, sandbag front rest. Looks like a sniper rifle, but it's really a run of the mill $100 91/30 that just happens to shoot well. (Scope and mount cost more than the rifle did.)

6 shots, 1 called flyer, lowest hole in the group. Target is the only one they will allow on the range to keep it within the bullet trap's optimum capture area.

Bull is 2" diameter and grid is 1" squares.

I'll make it a point to get to the range with the .223. Could probably do better with the .308, but don't feel like messing with the scope.

that is the most accurate 9130 ive ever seen.

maybe i should buy a set of dies.
All I did to it was re-crown the muzzle as it was really hogged out from cleaning rod abuse. I recessed it about 1/16" with a Lee case trimmer and that did it. Haven't done anything else special to it but refinish the stock, put the scope on it (changed bolt body to the turned-down handle style) and put a Finnish M39 trigger on it. Dang thing was made in 1942, the same year I was born - maybe that's the charm of it, I dunno. Russki's were famous for making things that worked and could be maintained by the untrained (pun intended).

Like I said earlier, I paid $99.95 for the rifle at Gander Mountain, Wichita 3 years ago this month and I have around $250 in the mount and optics. Even born losers can get lucky once in a while - ;) The bore slugs right at .3109 and it's almost shiny. I have not found a cast bullet load it likes yet, but I'm working on it. It actually did a .329", 5 shot group off a bench rest once but I haven't been able to get much tighter than the one I posted this time since.

KSCCHTrainer is in the lead now, whos gonna try to beat that?
I know I am when I pick up a box of GMM or M118, I'm not confident the Hornady loads are going to get any tighter.

Finally got the initiative to go and shoot the 10FP I bought from KSCCHTrainer a while back.
I didn't have access to a nice indoor range,:neener: just the wide open spaces of the Flint Hills.

Had originally planned on shooting the rimfire match with my Savage Mark II F, and after setting up some targets I started to try and zero the scope but no go, 3x9 Tasco scope I picked up somewhere didn't want to hold zero. So I decided to just use the open sights... that didn't go so well either. Had the elevator bar on the lowest setting and still had to put the front sight bead just barely visible in the bottom of the rear sight notch to even get close to point of aim for elevation. After getting slightly frustrated I decided to switch to the High Power.

Broke out the 10FP and got moved out to 100 yards and set up to use the bed of my pickup to prone out in. Go to set a target and found out that I had used up all of the ones I brought trying to get the .22 sighted in, so I just repurposed one of the .22 targets.

I haven't zeroed the scope to me, it is still set where KSCCHTRAINER had it set for him.
With a wind from directly behind at about 5-10 MPH and using SA R1M1 surplus ammo I proceeded to shoot. The first shot was 1.6" left of POA next 5 rounds were clustered about .90 high and .75 left of POA. Total outside to outside group size including flier was 1.44" with 5 shot group measuring .989 for a CTC of .681. I didn't think it was too bad considering this was my first outing with this rifle. Hopefully I will be able to do better when I get it sighted to me and get a little more trigger time with it.

And the rifle, a Savage 10FP .308 with Centerpoint 4x16x40 scope and a Walmart Harris bipod knockoff.

Hey man,
That South African surplus .308 ain't too shabby stuff, and certainly will shoot "minute of bad guy" without having to worry about it. Glad you finally took that rifle out and shot it.

I still wish I hadn't had to sell it, but at least it went to someone who can surely appreciate it.

Now, I do have a surplus rifle (not the Mosin 91/30) that I'd put up against it. A WW2 German 98K 8mm Mauser that hates surplus ammo, but absolutely loves cast bullets of the 205 grain persuasion and will group them under an inch @ 100 yards indoors. Haven't got an outdoor place to shoot within reasonable driving distance like you do ;)

shot today.
I guess the barrel in my Howa was thoroughly fouled. got alot of copper out after shooting. relized it was bad.
But my groups werent worth taking pictures
all over 2" and I couldnt find any more A-max to shoot. so got 178 grain kickmyshouldertohell ammo from the local gunstore. Hornady superformance 178 grain match.. kicks like an '06.
Hopefully I will get to shoot again soon, maybe maybe not.
But I had a fun time, just wish I couldve shot some watermelons, those dont show bad groups. :)

New Entry

Got out to do a little shooting today . Not on the money today , was too busy shivering in the 35* temps with gusts up to 30mph and a wind chill of like 15 . Not ideal conditions , but a bad day at the range is still better than work . I need to come up with a cold weather load for winter shooting , my pet load seems to suffer a bit when temps drop below freezin . None the less , the best I could squeak out on the day was a .631 with the AR . Always a 5 shot group , no called fliers allowed on my targets , squeeze em and weep .....

Got a little time off from work for the holidays. Took my 204 Ruger out today and shot these 5 shot groups, no flyers.

Great shooting dubbleA!! Outshot by you again:D

I hate photobucket, or my camera!! Giving old photos the same code so they show up where you deleated old ones. Maybe if THR would allow you to edit old post, we wouldn't have this problem;)

I would measure the .204" group for the match, but it wasn't shot for the match, and could not be duplicated(but close), so for now a picture of my Sig 226 frame rails will have to do:cool:
