High ride (cylinder above belt) holster suggestions?

I've got a Colt Detective Special.
I'm looking for a holster with the following features:

-High ride (cylinder above belt)
-Forward cant (the more the better)
-Strong side
-Hammer shield, if open top
-Open top, I usually like a thumbsnap, but I might bob the hammer.
-Leather, black.
-OWB
-Snap loops would be cool, but not critical.

Are these realistic expectations? Anyone tried something like this?
I drive for a living, and have never cared for IWB.
I've seen the Sherrick and SideGuard versions of this. Any good?
Any other suggestions? Pics...links...?

I do have a very good GUN belt.

IMO: Strong Side doesn't work so hot while setting down driving.

Most shoulder seat belts & latches will be in the way and trap the gun under it.
Not to mention trying to swing the gun across and clear the steering wheel and your family jewels.

I'd adjust your search and look for a Cross-Draw fitting your other requirements.

My Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake pictured below. Open top, slight forward cant, cylinder just above belt line. Can also be worn crossdraw or IWB if preferred. Does well with my 3.75" New Vaquero:

I believe Simply Rugged makes a smaller version that may be more appropriate for that gun - the Silver Dollar Pancake

Has anyone tried the SideGuard High Slide or Sherrick US High Ride? They seem like about what I want.
I've been talking to Ray at Lobo as well.
rcmodel, you're right, crossdraw is the best rig for driving. I've found it doesn't conceal very well under light clothing though. Really while I'm actually driving my bag next to me is fine. But, when I get out I need something that will conceal well under a t-shirt. I can throw on a safety vest to break up minor outlines.

After discussions and ponderings, I've refined my specs. I'm more concerned with my barrel and holster not extending more than 1/2" or so past the bottom of my belt. Since I don't like IWB, it's shirt rise while out of the truck, I'm addressing here. As well as accessability while seated.
I did what I should have done in the first place. I called up A.E. Nelson Leather and ran it by them. They're doing a 'one off' just for me at no extra charge. I look forward to recieving it and trying it out my 'Drivers Holster'. I'll post a review.
I expect good results. All my leather is made by them. Including some custom stuff made to my specs (also at no extra charge). It's all been top notch.

I am carrying a Colt DS (Agent, actually) in a Sherrick US High Ride right now. The lowest part extends 5/8"-3/4" below bottom of the belt.

I think it is fine for driving when worn, as I do, at 3:00. Not a problem at all for me. Worn at 5:00, it would be.

Outstanding holster for max OWB concealment. It has no cant, which is best for the 3:00 position or at 2:45. The further back towards the spine you carry, the more cant you will want. Any further towards the midline in front you will want a little butt backward cant. I have another US High Ride for a small auto. Both are exceptionally well made and places the butt close into the body.

A modest cover garmet is all you need...like a fleece vest or a sweater.

Thanks for the info on the Sherrick US High Ride. I like the design, being horsehide is a nice bonus.
I carry about 4:00-4:30, so I like a good amount of forward cant. Rusty said he wouldn't go past 10 degrees.
I'm really fond of 15 and for this I'd like to try 20. Eric over at Side Guard will do it. He has a 8-9 week turn around, though.
Neither seems to want to do a thumb break. I like thumb breaks. I've trained with and used them to the point that my thumb slaps to disengage, whether there or not.
A.E. Nelson will do the thumb break and get the cant in the 15-20 degree range. Plus it should be here in another week or two.
Rusty, Eric, and Ray over at Lobo all seem like good people to do buisness with. It is nice to do buisness locally when I can, though.

For cover garments, I'm hoping this will work under a t-shirt and safety vest.

i actually just ordered a High Ride for my SP 101 from Ryan Grizzle(High Country). should have it in maybee 7 weeks. i already have an IWB from him for the SP101. excellent work. nice holsters. excellent communication from him. he will do custom orders. i also am ordering an IWB for my j-frame. rgrizzleleather.com. have a look.

Somebody on the forum has one of these for an S&W N-frame, but I can't remember who it is. I think it is one of the moderators.

Edit: Ooops, I forgot about the leather requirement. Probably why I didn't recommend it in my earlier post. It is a pretty cool holster though.

I got my holster a few weeks ago. It extends about 3/4" below the belt and has somewhere between 15-20 degrees of cant.
I've been wearing it at work 12-14 hours in the seat everyday and it works great.
I've found the sweet spot is about 3 o'clock. This keeps the butt from riding between my ribs and the seat's side bolsters. The forward cant makes the gun ride in a nuetral/vertical position while seated.
The high ride keeps it from digging into my hip while seated or walking.
Concealment is good, extremely comfortable, it doesn't extend below a t-shirt and tucks nice and tight against my side.
Also draws well seated or standing.
So, I guess I'm pretty happy. If I had it made again, I think I'd skip the thumb break. It extends far enough forward that it prints a bit and if I'm not careful (mainly when I use the bathroom), my elbow can trip it.
I wonder if I can modify it? Maybe fold it over? Or shorten it? I'm sure A.E. Nelson would do it but, I don't want to give it up.

Sorry to go on so, I like closure. So often I'll find a thread where somebody asks a question or raises an issue... then never updates or shares results if/when it's resolved.

I carry my Det Spl in a Bianchi 5BHL. It is a thumb break, suede lined
holster. It works fine for me.
