Tom Unler, I have found that CCI standard velocity rounds work pretty well, though I understand there are others that work better.

The way I clean mine is to remove the barrel, pull the slide off, wipe down the slide and mating surfaces on the frame, clean the barrel with whatever solvent you like, a couple drops of oil on each of the slide rails, and reassemble. I have never experienced leading with these pistols and any ammunition I have used. I have not used a bronze brush, but depending on the condition of the area ahead of the chamber I will sometimes run a nylon bore brush in there and spin it around a few times to remove buildup in the leade area.

Hope this helps.

......Below are some cell phone photo of each one.......

Wow!! However interested I am in the guns, I was far more fascinated by what you had under the guns, on the table. You have a BSA Gold Star????????

I used to - it's one of the motorcycles I used to own, that I wish I had never sold. If you have one, you're SO lucky!!!

I would put the HS at top rank....way better trigger than the Ruger

I just read this post. I missed it back when it was posted. The Ruger I'm comparing the High Standards to was a 10" bull barrel model that is maybe the most accurate pistol I've ever shot. Those old High Standards are certainly accurate and very high quality but those particular Rugers are exceptional IMO.

This one ate anything I put on the plate!

Made in 1958 and fired the FIRST TIME, today.

3 different brands of Standard Velocity ammo and not a single hitch!

Hand held at 30 feet. Indoor range, (which I'm not a fan). Sadly, I have nerve damage in my right arm. Single handed bullseye isn't an option for me any more.

In any case, I can't wait for a 25 yard outdoor range on a sunny day!

I also shot my Hamden Victor that experienced constant feed issues. I couldn't concentrate well enough to get a good group. Here is a pic with Federal Auto Match The CCI Was more accurate, but not enough steam to function at all. I'm searching for my last box of Remington Standard Vel.

It is a shame these aren't made any more, youngsters have NO idea what real quality is all about! I let the range guy shoot my Trophy and he did a little happy dance...
