Readers Digest version, A buddy's wife inherits several pistols from her father's collection, and wants to sell them but doesn't know how much they're worth. I figured "what better source of collective knowledge than THR to pester for help"!

First up, a Gov't model 1911 in 9mm, that some jackass has gone and nickel plated. It looks decent, but I'm slightly sickened that someone would do that to such a nice piece. What should she ask for it now?

Secondly, a High Standard Supermatic Trophy. I've been a gun nut forever, and don't know the first thing about these. Just never really see them here. It appears to be somewhere near unfired. No idea what to tell her on this one, firmly out of my base of knowledge.

That's it. Everything else I could manage, being mostly rifles. These just threw me since the Colt has been dipped and the High Standard is nothing I've ever encountered.

I'm currently in no position to buy these, so when they do go up for sale, I'll post an email or number provided some local doesn't grab them up first. Thanks for looking!

I have two Hi Standard pistols. Extremely accurate, a trigger that will spoil you for other .22 pistols. Beautifully made. Recently a Supermatic Trophy sold on rimfirecentral.com for $750. Yours looks every bit the equal of that one. Those that know these pistols regard them highly. Advertised on rimfirecentral.com it should sell very easily.

The Colt...personally I like the 1911 in 9mm it's a fun gun and 9mm is cheap. You have the box it looks like the numbers match that's good, I would pay $750 if it was offered, the nickle plate wouldn't turn me off if the gun shot well.

The Colt is a MK. IV Series 80 built in 1984. While the plating job looks half way decent, the addition of the beavertail grip safety and adjustable rear sight (Millett?), bring into question how well these modifications were made. If everything checked out okay on the gun function wise, I would say somewhere between $750 to $800 for the gun.

The High Standard Supermatic Trophy looks to be in mint condition, with the original box as well. The Hamden, Conn. guns are highly prized by shooters and collectors alike.

Is the serial number 1,879,9XX or is the Model number 9246 or 9248 on the box? Does it have any accessories, like barrel weights or a muzzle brake? If so, I believe your gun was made between 1965 and 1968. Price for it could be anywhere from $800 on up at a online auction.

Or ANY subsequent autoloader trigger. I lay the blame for my own pickiness about triggers on the Supermatic Citation that was my first experience with an auto. (I'm pretty sure it's a '65, but not certain)

and the prices quoted seem about right.
