While I'm waiting for all the parts of my new AR-15 to arrive, I'm slowly getting other gear together to start Highpower shooting this year.

For the AR-15, what would be your recommendation on a sling to use in this type of competition? Also, if you happen to know a web site that it can be ordered from, please include it in your post.

Thanks for the information.

Hey man, good to see you around here. Welcome!

Take a look at my "Ready on the right" thread...you'll see what I have to say about slings.

Personally, I like some history somewhere on my rifle, and that custom Les Tam brown leather sling does it...real WWI frogs, too! Unfortunately, I'm a competitor at heart, and that new Biothane is a competitor's sling through and through.

I am SO on the fence right now.

BTW, there is NOTHING wrong with using the cloth M1 web slings. I might do that too. We'll see.

I have a Les Tam sling, also. The Turner is another good sling. But the Tam is a Turner on steriods.

Steve,
The turner AWS is interesting, isn't it? Creedmore has them for $45.00.

I think the new biothane sling may be just a fad., steve you are not really thinking about buying one of those biothing slings are you.
I did not want to tell you but I figure they are worth 2 points in a 50 shot match.
I have a nice well used leather turner I would trade you for your tamm.
I will go down and put the tamm on my rifle to see how it likes it and will lt you know if I want to trade or not. LOL

I just laid the tamm next to my new bushmaster lower I got today and I think they like each other. will have to keep a eye on them.
also saw a new pre-ban colt today around $1100 I think I can get it for with I think 12 mags or so.
no money as I need to make a payment and gotta save my funds for the ex-better half. that even is starting to sound good.

let me see ex-wife = better shooting, sounds right to me!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad to see this site start up after reading about The Firing Line.

I read the post you indicated and have sent an email to Les Tam to get one of his slings made up for me.

I appreciate everyones feedback to my question.

Thanks,
Troy

For shooting NRA Hi-Power the best sling I've seen is the good old cotton Garand sling. Fit's just fine on my AR's.

I made one.

Got some good frogs, solid WW1 issue from a rotten old sling, some good Amish tanned latigo and went to town with a punch and some rivets.

I had fun making it during my off-watch time at sea and now I have a GREAT sling. I sewed the keepers with some pretty good nylon.

You guys would be astonished at the things you can make for this hobby if you decide to.

Truth is, the money I save making my own stuff is minimal, I just do it for fun.

My cart, mat and scope stand is hand made. So are a lot of other odds and ends.
