HK 940 30-06 ? interesting

Seems I remember handling one years ago . Felt "odd" in the hands . If I remember right , didn't they have polygonal rifling and a fluted chamber ? Also took some strange , proprietary scope mounts .
(New) Dealer was telling me it comes with the HK Scope mount that sells for HK price ($500+ - who cares about money) and mags are like $400 each, comes with 3.

Again, I say it all the time, I’m not buying it, not a HK fan boy.

But a G36 Conversation in 30-06…. DEER WILL BE RUNNING

Never seen one in person. But recall reading about them quite a few years ago. I'm sure it is a BIG improvement over the Remington 740, 742 family of rifles in 30-06. But I'd still not be interested in one at 1/10 the cost.

1/10 - I would buy it for $700! then sell it and buy $7,000 worth of GUNS!

I saw one, once, in a rack for sale ages ago. The action made them look super long and clunky in person compared to a Model 7 that was next to it. (Maybe it was the smooth 870/1100 receiver bias in my head, who knows!) I believe the 940 has a slightly shorter barrel than the 740/7/7400, so they were about the same size.

Here is an ad for the 940 from that era:

My personal favorite oddball H&K rifles ftom my high school years were the SL-6 in .223. (SL-7 was in .308.) I always wanted an SL-6, but these are now selling for a brisk four figures and rising, so I will be forever passing on buying one.

"the Emperor has no clothes"

The prices on HK stuff have little or no relation to the actual product.
Their weapons tend to be a combination of very crude and very complicated concepts.
And while the Germans do make good weapons, they also license nations to make their product where you wouldn’t drink the water.

If you're truly interested in one of these family of rifles, and can get over the "HK. Because you suck. And we hate you." And the "rounds in the magazine are backwards" incident. And...

Check out seller "theattic" on Gunbroker, they usually have a few up. I've seen some unusual (for the US) chamberings, like 7x64 and even a few in 9.3x62 (although I think that is an evolutionary model).

HTH

Seen a SL-6, 7 years ago at a NC pawn shop. $900, probably could have gotten it for $8-ish. Called my brother and he said it’s a failed 90’s gimmick gun.

Sometimes big brother don’t know it all, I should have bought it. Feel bad! lol

2002-ish, Gun Range in Charlotte rented out full auto HK-MP5. After the full send raw meat eating range session, RO said, Guns for sale; $14,000

I was just about to buy a Bike (Triumph Speed Triple) and was like $14,000 for that thing… Anyways, I think I could have resold MP5 that at a profit, my Bike is now worth a couple hundred:(

They were pretty much H&K’s attempt to answer to the Ruger Ranch Rifle. The .308 version looks like it would be a thumper…on both ends.

Pricy, with limited mag capacity and magazine availability, but cool nonetheless. ;)

Stay safe.

when i worked at the frontiersman in the early eighties we had a lot of hk guns. 91s, 93s, 270s, 22lr and the 22 mag ones also. prices were around the 599 to 699 mark. even for the 223 and the 3006 sporters. interesting to note a browning citori was in the same ballpark as far as $$$ went....

these guns were from the 80’s? some reason I thought the were a Bill Clinton ear guns. Kinda like the Norinco MAK 90’s with the thumbhole stock. <<<< bought one at live action with tons of 90’s ammo for $550 a few years about

I did a search and found a very nice 940 30-06 for $3.5 ish and you can pick up a like new 770 in .308 for $1.2k right now. The price on the OP 940 is highway robbery. I’d avoid doing business with that gun shop from now on.

it’s on consignment, the consignor probably was a HK fan boy and put a crazy price on it. Description said unfired, but the sling swivels we rusty, probably had a leather sling on it for ever.

Don’t buy it. They do not compete in the same in the same arenas
No! I’m not going anywhere near that, just wanted to show it here and the price they are asking. For $7,000, I’m sure I can get one of those high end hunting rifles that nobody ever heard of
