I have been watching videos about the new HK MR556 (HK 416). Thinking about getting one when they come out.

What do you guys think about them?

Overpriced and incompatible with common AR parts (upper and lower are not interchangeable with a standard AR upper and lower due to changed pin location).

IMHO you are paying for name.

What do they command at the cash register?
They have yet to hit the market, butI have heard rumors of them selling for as little as $1k...I don't really believe it though. The Sig 556 sells for about $2k, and that is their major competition. I really like the idea of the HK 417 in 7.62NATO...they call him Mr. 7.62, and Mr. 7.62 commands respect. :D

in Europe (Belgium) they go for 2350 €, the MR308 probably more like 3k, but I haven't received the price on that one yet.

But they are in stock, which cannot be said of any other brand here.
Only Sabre Defence (1700-1900 €) and Oberland Arms (2300+ € and waiting list) are remotely an alternative. Please, USA-administrators, please write some new export licences... :'(

Oh sure they look great. But they wont fit on any of the lowers you purchase out in the real world. Wont fit. period. HK hates you, me and everyone we know. Get over it.

Im guessing buying a gas piston conversion kit for my bushmaster ar15/m4 would be cheaper and give me the same basic capabilities of the HK MR556(HK416). Just save my money for a Springfield M1A instead.

put a gas piston on your AR and you essentially have the same thing at 30% less than what HK will sell theirs for.

The idea seemed rather interesting to me also when I saw them projecting the rifles to be available this year, but I think my "gas-piston itch" will be scratched by a bushmaster upper instead. Theres always the LMT monolythic rail system gas piston rifles for $1440 for an upper compatable with our AR lowers. I am thinking about the $1130 for the bushmaster right now, and a now reduced 3-5 month wait with demand dropping and orders starting to catch up.

I want to find out how much the HK-417 (MR762) will cost. I havent seen a new Battle Rifle worth its salt in quite abit. Lets hope this one takes the cake. It between this and the magpul MASSOUD.

I've had the opportunity to handle the 416, 417, MR556 and MR762 over the past few years' SHOT Shows. I really don't care about the proprietary parts issue. I own several different firearms and none of them are duplicates, so parts commonality with other guns in my inventory is not a concern of mine.

What does concern me is the weight of these rifles and their price point. The "Mister 556" feels like it weighs as much as an M1A, and the 762 is even beefier. To top it all off, I think the pistol grip and buttstock are absolutely hideous. I think they had a much better looking rifle with the earlier 416s. I've heard rumors that they will come in at around $3k, and that is just too much coin for any semi-auto in basic factory trim. To me, these rifles are just updated ARs, which makes me more drawn to guns like the SIG 556 Classic & SWAT, the new generation AUGs, and the FNs (although they can keep their Flat Dark Bronze).

All in all, too much money for a gun that has a lot of qualities that I dislike. Nonetheless, I'll be amused when people are lined up begging for the chance to toss $3k into the basic rifle. This coming from a guy who likes HK products...
