HK USP .357sig

I am interested in one of these (compact model).
Anyone own one or have first hand experience with one?

I understand that HK no longer manufactures these in .357sig. Is this true? and why?
Please let me know whatcha think?

Never fear, .357 compacts are still being manufactured. In fact, in 2004 HK will be introducing the full-size USP in .357 SIG as well.

If you have experience shooting handguns you'll find the compact easy to shoot and extremely accurate. And like all HKs, they're built to last. I highly recommend them. It's my primary carry, and that's about the highest recommendation I can make!

i've never fired the .357Sig but you can just buy the .40 compact and get an aftermarket or original HK barrel in .357 and swap them to your hearts content. two guns in one. you certainly won't regret buying an HK. i have about 7000 rounds through my .40 compact and only two malfuctions. one was a bad round, the other a cheap aftermarket magazine with a srping like a spaghetti noodle. you can probably find one in .357Sig on Gunbroker or GunsAmerica.

I am very happy with mine. It handles .357 Sig very well, and has never malfunctioned in any way. It's at HK USA right now being retrofitted with the LEM trigger, along with my HK USP45 Compact having the same thing done.

Can you swap barrels in the USP? I was told "no" by an H&K rep, but maybe he was wrong.

I shot one at a "try before You buy" promo at a local gunshop and was very impressed.

An HK USP40 Compact will fit and function in an HK USP357 Compact, and vice versa. I have a factory HK USP40 Compact barrel for my HK USP357 Compact.

Yes, as usual, Dr. Ken is right. I have a USPc 40 and have an Hk .357Sig barrel which works great in it! I've never read anything about Hk suggesting no swapping. I know SIG recommends it on theirs (229 and 239). You might also check at HkPro.com. and ask that question about swapping.

I also own a 357 Compact and it has been 100% reliable. They are not very common but they are available. Absolutely the best round available for civilians. Recoil is not objectionable (to me) but you know you are not shooting a 9mm.

2 comments regarding ammo...

1 - Ammo is more expensive than 9mm or 40. You need to look for sales or roll your own. (I have done this but its a lot easier to get stuff on sale)

2 - I have not found any 'light loads' in 357. Almost everything is full power (125 gr @ 1350 ft/sec).

Buying a 40S&W barrel would, of course, solve both these problems.

there are some aftermarket barrels for the full size USP in .357Sig. they have been known to cause feeding problems though. they work just fine in the compacts but the full size USP's are prone some sort of hicup with the .357. i couldn't tell you exactly why, but thats what i've read.
