Okay, get this. A buddy of mine scored a slightly used USP Compact (by slightly used I mean probably only a couple hundred rounds through it) for all of a hundred dollars. Chambered in .357 Sig.

Well, okay, a hundred dollars plus the trade of an expensive mountain bike frame, and it was a trade with a friend of his. Regardless, he made out like a bandit and now has a nice little pistol. I've shot this piece and it's a decent shooter.

So...questions, then.

-Good holsters: What kind of holsters do you like for your USP compacts?

-Light: He's leaning towards getting a Surefire adapter and a regular light. Is the HK UTL a better option?

-.40? Some .357 Sig pistols can be converted to .40 by simply swapping out the barrel. Is this true of the USP compact? He asks mainly because .40 ammo is generally a lot cheaper than .357 Sig, and is easier to find. Can you rechamber the USPC with a barrel swap, and if so, where do you get the barrel?

Thanks everyone!

Nightcrawler;

I've been carrying my USPc in a Milt Sparks Exec's Companion for around 1 decade now. It's been both comfortable & effective, what more can a guy ask for? I also bought the Sparks belt when I got the holster, & it's day is about done, but the holster is still going strong. Nuthin' to complain about though, any leather product has a finite life.

It's my understanding that a barrel switch is all that's needed to convert from SIG to .40. However, I'd suggest going over to www.hkpro.com & asking the experts over there.

Sounds like your buddy got a good deal.

I like the HK UTL better for the USP Compact because I don't need the rail adapter and they can be had for a reasonable price if you shop around online (I paid $165/shipped for mine).

The HK USPc .357 Sig can be converted to .40 by a barrel swap but I'm not familiar with a good source for them. Go to hkpro.com and check the classifieds. There's a good chance you'll find one for sale there.

I have a Fire Dragon 40 barrel for my USPc 357,and it's VERY picky about ammo,most factory loads I've tried had feeding issues.If I could do it all over again I'd spend the extra $$ and buy a barrel from HK...Just my 2 cents,this doesn't mean all Fire Dragon barrels have this problem...

Go check hkpro.com for sure, but I do recall an issue w/ the barrel swap...just didn't work right, you'll actually en up needing 40 cal mags :scrutiny: I don't recall if it was on the fullsize or the compact, but the swap doesn't work...as I recall it has something to do w/ the followers
