Brand new to handguns, just bought my wife the PK380 which she loves. Me on the other hand, well I can't decide but think I've narrowed it down to a Used HK USP LEM 40 Compact that comes with night sites vs a new S&W H&P 9 Compact.

The HK has about 200 rounds thru it & will cost $625, the S&W Compact runs $519...I'm a lefthanded shooter, have held both which are very close to being the same size. I realize 40 will be more expensive to shoot than 9 but don't think I'll be spending alot of time at the range. Anyway, it will be my first handgun & I'm trying to make sure I make the right choice. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have the p2000 in .40 with the lem trigger, and the m&p compact in .40. I use the large back strap on the m&p to help fill my hand and it still kicks hard with 135-165 gr 180 is well beyond my comfort level. The p2000 on the other hand fills my hand nicely but that tigger, it is IMHO poorly desinged, (they had nypd in mind) 20 pound DA tigger pull, but as soon as you chamber a round it becomes "SA" but the trigger still needs to taken up to the sear for a 5 pound break. No safety either, I do not carry it with a round in the chamber (unlike my sig wih the hammer down) They are two diffrent shapes the m&p is closer to a sub-compact glock and the usp a true "compact"

My daily carry is my HK USP9 Compact. I've been carrying it for a while and it is a GREAT shooter. I owned a full size M&P 9 and 45 as well as the 9c. Since owning, i've sold off the full size 9 and 45 but kept the 9c to give to my brother once he turns 21. My USP is the LEO trigger with decocker and safety version and let me tell you, it is great!! No sponge feeling like some other firearms. Carry chambered with no fear of AD. I've shot both the USP and M&P in 40 before and even then, liked the HK better. 40 isn't my cup of tea but you can't go wrong with HK.
