Went to a gunstore to check out a new handgun and the 1 I picked out was a HK45c and this guy tells me it’s a bed choice cause mags are “expensive as hell and so is ammo” his quote then he goes on to tell he that all I need is a Glock 19 9MM. Should I just blow him off or does he have a point?

Are you looking to conceal carry either choice? The H&K is pretty big compared to the G19.

He does make a point about ammo and mags also. Around here 9mm can be had for $0.22 per round, and Glock mags can still be had under $25

What is the purpose of your new gun? Home Defense? CCW? ...

For both conceal carry and home def. Another gun he recommended was the M&P 45 he says mags are cheaper for this one if I wanted a 45.

Personally, I would suggest a Glock or Springfield XD in the caliber of your choice.

Both are made in Service, Compact and sub-compact sizes. Mags are cheap and plentiful, and they are about as reliable as a pistol can get.

I absolutely love my 45c! I picked it up a few weeks ago and put a few hundred rounds through it already and it's been issue free from round one.

It's a nice size with low recoil, very accurate and a great look and feel. The trigger is a little heavy in DA but I carry it with the hammer back and safety on so the doesn't really bother me. Really I have no complaints about the 45c but I will agree that spare mags can be expensive. Then again the gun is rather pricey as well, nearly twice as much as a new Glock usually runs.

Here's mine....

I'm a big fan of Glock, but the HKs are very nice guns. If I had an extra thousand bucks or so burning a hole in my pocket, I might lean toward the HK45C.

As has already been noted, you need to consider what your needs are, both in terms of size, caliber, and function.

Really, though you'll hear lots of pontificating to the contrary, 9mm and .45 ACP are both suitable for self-defense.

On this particular forum, you'll hear from a lot of Glock naysayers, but take it for what it's worth--ultimately Glocks are among the most reliable pistols on the planet. If you are looking for a smaller gun, the Glock 30 has gotten excellent reviews and is available now as the 30SF ("Short Frame"), which has a smaller grip size. Another variation is the Glock 36, a single-stack .45 that is noticeably narrower than the double-stack models.

I have two Glocks available for carry--a Glock 26, their subcompact 9mm., and a Glock 23, a compact .40 cal. Both are excellent guns.

Glocks are lightweight and dependable. The fact that there are so many of them means that there are a large number of accessories available--for what the HK would cost, you can purchase a similar Glock and outfit it with night sights, laser . . . whatever . . . and still have spent less than on the HK.

Ultimately, though, I'd urge you to shoot both an HK and a Glock, to see what you think. Both are high-quality weapons.

The HK 45c is a very, very nice gun. However, for the price of it, you can get a Glock anything, several more magazines, and a chunk of ammo. I've got the XD 45 compact that was recently replaced as my carry gun by a Glock 19. These are both excellent guns as well, and I don't feel undergunned at all with the G19. Like Mike said, go shoot them and see which one works best for you1

I have a HK45c and think it's great. Yes, it's expensive (the gun, the mags, and .45 ammo), but it's fun to shoot at the range and 8 rounds isn't too bad capacity wise for carry or home defense.

The G19 is a great all-around gun, and as noted the size is similar (or possibly smaller) than the HK45c.

I also owned a S&W M&P45, and it was a solid performer. If money is a concern and you want a compact .45, you may want to look at this instead of the H&K.

im all for the glock 19
i think its the best all around handgun made
the hk is great it is much larger though

When it comes to CCW you won't have enough difference in size btw an HK45C and a compact Glock to know the difference. Carry one for a day and you'll forget it's there...

Which fits your hand better????
Which one do you shoot better???
One or the other, niether, both? Then keep looking.

Only you can answer that question; you won't find the answer online or on this forum. The only way you'll find the answer, in fact, is at the range, and it might take more than a single visit to make a good determination.

Yeah, size does matter (SEE!?!?!? Women DO lie!) ha ha! My XD 45 compact and Glock 19 are literally the same size. I mean it's almost exact. However, since the .45 is heavier, the Glock is far more comfortable to me as a carry gun.
Searcher 451 is exactly right. Go shoot as many different ones that you can and see what you like. It doesn't matter what anyone here says, if it's reliable, you shoot it well, and you like it, then buy it. That's what (almost) everyone here does anyway!
