I have been looking for a good MBR and decided on .308 (plenty powerful enough down range and bearable to shoot). It seems to me after alot of searching (I didn't know, so I came to the guys that do), that the basic choices are HK91, M1A, FAL, and AR10. After looking at prices (ouch, wrong time to buy guns if you're broke, but the right time to buy if you want to beat another AWB), I decided on the CETME. But after researching those, and reading here, I figure my luck isn't that good and I should stay away from century (thumb-fingered monkeys I think was the term). So, after that what's the next 308 for the budget -minded? I still like the HK91 (.97 mags are a big plus), but the sticker shock on a PTR is a bit painful. Any thing out there for us poor folk in 308, or do I take my chances on a CETME or save my pennies for something else?

Saiga is a good option out there that can be had at a pretty decent price, DPMS has an AR-10 sportical model available at under a grand.. I opted for the PTR. Look for a good deal on a gun that you want.. Dont go cheap or you will be disappointed in the end without a doubt. "sticker shock" goes away the moment you pull the trigger on what you really wanted to begin with.

All that said, what you can afford does make a difference. IMO, it is better to hold off and save those pennies to afford what you want.

In order of preference for me.

PTR
M-14
AR-10/FAL
Saiga
CETME

I would be more than happy and confident with any EXCEPT the CETME.

Speaking of the CETME, What's up with the upside down safety ? How did they mess that up? Do you have to replace the entire lower to correct that( $250+)?
