I had a idea. Could you use a S&W 1917/625 or Taurus Tracker that uses moonclips to fire 45 ACP ALSO to fire 45 GAP? Could this be sort of a 357 Magnum/38 Special combination? Is this a safe and viable possibility?

It's my understanding that there isn't a lot of ballistic difference between GAP and ACP, so the comparison is probably invalid, but a revolver should be able to handle both if the moon clip can.

Since the .45GAP is a higher pressure round, I'd be wary of using it in a 1917.

As factory loads they both loaded to about the same velocities anyway. The shorter length of the .45GAP would be a disadvantage accuracy wise since there would be an increased distance from the case mouth to the forcing cone.

Even if the round lasts long enough, it will be quite a while until the .45GAP can match the price of cheap .45ACP.

So while it should be possible to fire .45 GAP in a S&W 25/625 the real question should be, "Why would you want to?"

Alright, I can't help myself...I have to say something here.

There's a lot of this going around lately. Trying to shoot .45 GAP in a .45 ACP gun.

Am I the only one that thinks this is nuts?

In reloading, you ALWAYS follow the book. In shooting in general, the four rules are GOSPEL. Yet, folks want to purposely shoot a cartridge that wasn't meant for their gun.

If you knowingly try to shoot a cartridge that wasn't meant for your gun, you deserve it to blow up.

And the questions still remains...why? When you can shoot a regular .45 ACP +P that has the same ballistics, why chance it?

The Speer spec sheet for a .45 GAP shows the 200 grn bullet at 950 fps. You want velocity, shoot Cor-bon in the caliber your gun was made for.

I sure hope I'm not standing next to the idiot that tries this.

esheato out....

Theroetically, it will work fine. The GAP is loaded to approximately +p .45ACP pressures. However, the moon clips might be an issue, as the rim is rebated and of a smaller diameter than the ACP.
