Of course some are wetting their panties over the prospect of guns in bars, but here is my response to that.

Actually, I believe the gun permit/alcohol thing should be handled the same as the car/alcohol thing.

If you legally intoxicated you should not have a gun in your possession. If you plan to drink, lock it up and get a designated driver.

The shootings in bars aren't typically committed by licensed or permitted gun carriers. Gun crimes aren't typically carried out by licensed or permitted gun carriers. Why does everyone insist on restrictions for responsible, law abiding citizens?!!
There are laws on the books to deal with crimes committed with guns. Prosecute the offenders and leave the law abiding citizens alone!

Nothing should get in the way of you carrying a gun(outside prison, etc.). There would be no problem prohibiting you to drink while in the possession of a gun, though. It's an important distinction. You could be charged with drinking while in possession, but not for possession while drinking.

Why not just prosecute people for shooting other undeserving people? Since we already have a law for that?

I have no problems with people drinking and carrying. It's the whole drunks shooting people thing that bothers me. It doesn't require motor skills to keep a gun in its holster like it does keeping a car in its lane, after all.

It's disingenuous to argue that people should be allowed to carry anywhere because they aren't a threat and then to argue they become a threat the moment they start drinking.

Comparing it to driving is apples to oranges since driving by virtue of requiring motor skills is not the same as leaving something where it is, which doesn't.

Oh, I quite agree. I'm just pointing out the difference in either carrying while drinking or drinking while carrying in the law. The Second Amendment would prohibit a law of the character of the former but not of the latter.

Those of us who are armed stand in the way of something terrible. I don't know what it is, but it is damned scared of us. Let's keep the fear in its heart, not ours. B.E. Wood

Dont know how long our law has allowed it (but It seems like more than 10years),and I 've not heard of a single, drunken bar shooting by a permit holder in the 2.5 years I've lived here in OR. Are the people here just WAY better than the people in TN,or could it be that permit olders ARENT the problem, so carry in bars is a complete non-issue?Gee, I wonder which it could be.....
