Hodgdon Powder acquires RCBS from Vista Outdoor

From the RCBS website........

All of our products are designed here in the U.S., and over 97% of them are made in the United States. This includes all of ours dies, presses, mechanical powder throwers, shell holders, bushings, and more. However, a short list of products are manufactured globally in countries like Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and China. Want to know where a product is made? Simply look at the product's listing on our website or give us a call. Our customer service in Oroville, California or Overland Park, Kansas will be happy to assist you.

Overland Park, Kansas? When did that happen? BTW, that is also where Hodgdon HQ is located.

BTW, when you look at the history of many of these companies and brands, they have been passed around and abused more than Miley Cyrus.

First "company" I worked for was founded by one of those unique, special innovatory type guys about 100 years ago. He got it rolling, brought in others, they did well. Company was privately held, which means the employees owned the stock. About 100 of them. That worked well until the day when about 80% of the stock wound up in 5 guys hands. Normal process was when they retired, they would sell their shares to the new guys. A retirement plan of sorts, and a good plan, as new guys were then invested in the company. Had reasons for company to do well and for them to stick around for less money than they could make elsewhere. But back to those 5 guys........and they day when an outside holding company offered them a 150% premium for their stock over what they could sell to younger guys.......and they took it. I remember one of them telling us not to worry, nothing would change. That lasted about a week, when everything began to change. Entire company was gone inside of 5 years.

Never have understood how it makes sense for outsiders to buy something they don't want. Hopefully Hodgdon sees this as a long term asset and prized acquisition. I can see reasons to maintain tradition and keep it in Oroville. But can also see reasons to pack things up and move to a 2A friendly place like Sedalia, MO. That is now home of Sierra Bullet, Starline Brass and US HQ for VV powders, Berger bullets, etc. Plenty of room there for one more.

BTW, have mentioned this before but day I woke up to realize that Vista group had control over 3 of 4 primer companies..........along with Remington ammo, Federal, Alliant powder and Speer bullets.........and the reality that if that ever fell into hands of the wrong sort, there would be no ammo at all........was the day I resumed reloading. Basically becoming my own ammo factory for every shooting iron I have dominion over. Seems silly that one would feel compelled to do that.......but the sight of empty shelves made it go from silly to stupid if you don't.

I missed something................................what does that have to do with California.................?
More to the point, what does where microchips are made have to do with Hodgdon acquiring RCBS?

I know you’re not guilty of this Sooner but I see a whole bunch of anti free market gibberish and just plain ignorance in this thread. RCBS was vulnerable. That’s a fact. Hodgdon got there in time to stop a worse bunch from taking advantage. That’s speculation.

Y’all ought to look up the etymology of some of these words you toss around carelessly. Just saying.

They do it for money, really no other reason. They strip out every penny they can, use it as a tax write off or shelter, etc..., and sooner or later they run it into bankruptcy or sell it for pennies on the dollar to someone who will do the same thing. Eventually the company is gone. A new one may or may not spring up to take it's place.

It sucks, but it's business and that's how it's done in the corporate world.

I hope Hodgdon keeps RCBS going and runs it well, only time will tell.

I missed something................................what does that have to do with California.................?
Remember Silicon Valley? Remember Texas Instruments? Remember Hewlett Packard? Hewlett Packard, a once all-American company that is now a Chinese Company. I was told by my favorite independent auto bodyshop owner, that every body part he has to order comes from China whether genuine Toyota. Ford, or genuine Chevrolet body parts or any other brand........what happened to Detroit? It turned into an group of assembly plants for Chinese parts.

Maybe now with all these "immigrants" here, factories will come back? If you believe that, I got some beachfront property here in New Mexico I'd like to sell you. Maybe we better support the Chinese companies. ....If they also go out of business, we will be buying horse drawn buggies again, and buying pencils instead of Chinese computers.;)

I'm not sure even Trump can make America great again......might be wise to put our efforts, hope, and trust in Christ coming. Until then we need to do our part at the ballet box....and support those who are at least trying to bring America back and support companies who are still trying. I guarantee you RCBS employees are.....they had no say in this Vista mess....they still make good products.

Back to RCBS........I don't care that they are in California, in fact I'm glad they are. Last I heard it's still America......until the Chinese land. But we can perhaps prevent that, by supporting the America first efforts there by the few good companies that remain.

And don't tell me about prices.......you going to quit buying bread and milk and eggs too? The whole economy is that way thanks to politicians........vote better.....I know ... talking to the choir.....but spread that option around to your non-gun lover friends.

I really enjoy all this industry bashing...as a retired Fed (along with my father and mother and grandfather and aunt and uncle and cousins and wife) it feels good to know everyone else sucks too.
Nowhere does anyone indicate this was a hostile takeover. But for some reason that is being assumed. Why? Greed. Not corporate greed, personal greed on the part of the assumers. And jealousy. Why aren’t they being given something for nothing? It makes me sad.

I don't think Hodgdon bought RCBS because they don't want it and want to milk it dry. I think they bought it as a calculated business decision in order to expand their business and profitability. It makes sense to me from a business perspective. I'm sure they looked at the books or balance sheets before they made the aquisition and liked what they saw.

If they can keep the quality the same, or even improve it, then they should make money and do well on the purchase. They may decide to expand RCBS in some ways, maybe make a progressive press to compete against the other companies. Time will tell how it turns out.

There is 3 reasons that Hodgdon might have bough RCBS, because the guy in charge wanted it, because God led him to, profit based.

Before you go looking in Montana for Hodgdon HQ......pretty darn close to Overland Park......and Missouri too....I'm stoked! Have a positive feeling about this!:)

Hmmmm. Lots of businesses profess honoring God and good for them. I find this statement to be quite over the top. This business is not following any model of Trinitarian Christianity. They are following the capitalist model of profit. While the founders may subscribe to Christianity, I think the company statement is pandering to Christian customers. All for businesses professing faith but show me how their business model has the "purpose" of honoring our Lord Jesus Christ.
I thought it was pretty bold to put a statement like that on their site. I would surmise there are a lot more folks who prefer to distance themselves from anything to do with God than those that prefer to support companies that confess to follow him.

While it might be skeptical to some, It's enough for me.

That's like saying every American believes wholeheartedly in the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights... particularly the 2nd Amendment. We all know that's not true.

There are a lot of Americans that don't give one hoot about being an American. Further, there are people who live and work in America that are not Americans.

As far as Hodgdon aquiring RCBS... we will have to wait and see.
I don't believe so. I think acknowledging CA have good Americans living there and to just ask everyone to pick up and go is completely unreasonable. Just because CA has Americans that don't believe in the COnstitutiion is not an excuse. Unfortunately these days, all states, all groups and all political affiliations behave poorly and defend actions that are against the Constitution. Even anti-Constitutional thinking exists in the military - yeah, the guys and gals taking an oath to defend it. So I don't think business bashing a particular state that has true Americans makes any sense.

The big problem is CA has Americans that don't believe in the Constitution... and they are running the state. Several other states come to mind as well.
Exactly, but not just some - ALL. So you can't business bash and negate true Americans just because your think your state is better. I'm a Texan and they have lots of anti-Constitution problems as well. Definitely better run than CA but you don't forget about other Americans across this nation.

I had to chuckle when I read the statement from Revelyst regarding the sale:

"Revelyst will use proceeds from the sale to enhance the operational efficiencies of the company’s power brands, evaluate bolt-on acquisitions, and invest in maker-fueled innovation and organic growth."

If anyone can interpret that I'd be appreciative. They gotta be better off under Hodgdon.

I thought the same after reading the whole thing. What a bunch of management speak. When I was working I would read that kind of BS every day!
That said, I think it will be a good move for RCBS I like both companies. I do not think Hodgdon jacked up prices, they don't make powder. so the cost of production gets pass down to them.
Went to buy some plain 30W oil for lawnmower. Prices are $12 a quart!!:what:

Hey d31tc I had not problem signing in or accessing the VIP Program, might want to make sure you are doing it right!!

Not sure what to think of product management being led by marketing

Product Development is directly dependent upon market analysis in any and all successful companies. Marketing teams identify product needs/demands from customers, and strategy teams determine with engineering/r&d which needs can be met with a profitable outcome. That’s not unique to either company in question.
