Hodgen cfe powder

I loaded up some 17 Remington with the CFE223 powder. The starting loads from the Hodgdon magazine blew out the primers in my 17 Remington AR. The velocity was a little lower when compared to my current favorite 17 Remington loads.

They seemed to work ok in my bolt gun. I did not shoot any for accuracy though. I am pondering what to do next. Maybe trying it in the 223 Remington.

i bought a pound but i am waiting to get my new single stage press. Upgrading from an old rcbs rc2 to a redding big boss 2. Mostly cause i am now loading 300win mag and 7mm rem mag. Getting back to the powder i expect it to work as described. Hodgon makes great powders

I've loaded a few hundred with it. I like enough I'll probably buy more when it runs out. It's clean, and I get decent groups from start - midrange loads.

I have only had a chance to try one load using CFE223 in my .223: 27.7gr under HDY 53gr V-MAX, WSR primer. The ave of 7 shots was 3235 fps in my 700 VTR. The target for that 7 shot string was at only 55 yds, but was one hole smaller than a dime.

Has anyone tried this powder out in a .260 Rem yet? I have a pound of it sitting around, and I don't have an AR anymore, hoping I can make some use of it.

I tried some for the first time last weekend, and it was not as accurate as TAC in the same load setup. My results are below.

I plan to try a different bullet next weekend. The TAC load at 24.5 grains was the top of my load tries.

My Savage has a 1 in 9 twist rate so I will use Hornady 60gr vmax with the powder.

Yes, that rifle will do that with several bullet/powder combinations. The attached target was also shot at 55 yrds, but was 5 shots, not 7. The flyer in that goup was the result of a bug that flew into my eye as I pressed the trigger, so it's 4 shots in that other hole.

It isn't a regular 700 VTR, but was one of a limited run made specifically For Cabela's. I explained it here:

I have been using it for my AR's with 55grain v-Max and z-max bullets 26.8gr cfe and with 68 gr BTHP Match with 25.8 cfe I dont have any target pictures to show you right now but they have been heck on prairie dogs well over 200 yards. The one thing I did notice when I chrony'd them was my standard deviation on 10 shot strings was +/-9 with the 55 gr and +/-7 with the 68 gr both running about 2990 fps. I am going to push the 55 gr up to 27.4 and I have some 53gr a-max that I am getting ready to load with 28gr of CFE,
