Hog Hunt Recommendations

If you want to hunt in Texas, I can personally recommend Dos Plumas Ranch, near Abilene. I've hunted there several times and always been successful and had a fabulous time, too. I'd say they treat me like family, but the truth is they treat me better than my (extended) family does.

Check 'em out, and tell 'em I sent ya.

This is primarily a bow-hunting camp (stands set-up within 15-25yards from a feeder/gametrail) however they do offer a limited number of firearm hunts. I have hunted there twice. Success rates are very high there, and there are 300-350+lb hogs there all the time. Also several species of exotics.

Tell'em "Bigbore Butcher" sent you. They are in Oklahoma.

Outfitted Hog Hunts

First choose a state: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida in that order. Second, make a friend in Texas who owns a ranch. Many ranchers will allow one to hunt hogs for a fee. If no success in that direction, punch in HOG HUNTING in an Internet query and read for hours about prices and hunting packages. One will find MANY choices. TEXAS BOARHUNTERS is a great source. I have two mates in Queensland who invited me to hunt hog and roo, but I doubt I'll ever afford the plane ticket. Texas offers all the hog hunting one can ever hope to have. cliffy

Sorry...I can't recommend a good outfitter, as I now hunt the South Georgia WMAs in the Savanna area, where pigs are plentiful.

Have hunted at the Ross Hammock Ranch near Inglis, FL...a large managed hunting preserve with lots of pigs, deer, and some exotic game, such as goats, water buffalo, Kudu, and others. You can check them out on the INET. Fine lodge and food, good guides. But costs of the different varieties of pigs was not adequately explained, and I wound up shooting a far more expensive pig than I intended. I then made the mistake of paying them a fairly expensive butchering fee in advance...and wound up with about thirty to forty pounds of ground sausage and three or four small roasts about three pounds each out of a 330-lb Russian sow, which I was told would be good eating even at that size (wild hogs over 200 lbs are generally not good eating). No ribs, hams, steaks, chops, ect...and no explanation.:uhoh:
