Does anyone have any recommendation for an outfitter that does guided hog hunts? My dad has been wanting to go on a hog hunt for a long time, but he wants to do it at a place that cooks all your meals for you and stuff like that. We've always hunted with the bare essentials and I think he's starting to get soft in his old age. But we live in Missouri and we don't mind to travel...too far at least. I think we've just about decided that Texas hunts are out of the question because it will take us a day to get there and a day to get back and we don't have that much time to take off work. We're looking at the end of March or early April for the hunt time and it would be like a 3 or 4 day weekend that we'd have to do it on. He's been doing some online searching for places and gave me three that he likes best and I'll put the links at the bottom if you want to check them out. But we don't want a "canned" hunt where it's like shooting fish in a barrel and not sport. But then again, we'd rather not spend a ton of money on a place and never see anything either. It's kind of in between. Dad just wants one hog around 200 or 250 pounds. But I think I might like to have a big boar to get mounted then I'd like to shoot a smaller 150 or 200 pounder for meat as well. I know a lot of the places in Texas will let you shoot as many as you can take home, but most other places I've seen make you pay for an extra hog. We're not wanting to slaughter a whole herd of pigs by any means. Dad just wants one and I want two a the most. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on where some good places are?

Too bad you ruled out Texas, because the place you want to go is Dos Plumas Ranch (www.dosplumasranch.com), near Abilene. Low prices, good food/accommodations, terrific owners, and lots and lots of great hunting.

This photo is a little dark, but you can get an idea of the number of porkers there. This is a photo I took near a feeder; it's not a game-cam pic. You see a lot of little guys, but larger ones were hanging around out of flash range.

Awesome guided hunts on a famous ranch. Me, my father, and my brother have hunted there several times. 1st class facilities. I killed 2 hogs there in 2006 and 2007 both weighed 215lbs with awesome tusks. My brother killed one there in 2006 that weighed 275lbs. The ranch will weigh and gut them for you if you wish. You will see more hogs, deer, and turkey than you can count in a day. It is NOT high fenced.

I know you said no Texas hunts if you could make it this one is worth your drive.

Yeah it's just too long of a haul for us. I live in the Kansas City area and my dad lives in the St. Louis area. We would just be wasting too much time driving there and back.

well hey good luck finding a place, im sure wherever y'all go you'll have a blast!
