Hi,

I'm looking at a used EAA Witness .45 this weekend, steel (probably Wonder Finish based on add), $275 with walnut grip rated 98%.

I'm a big fan of Hogue FG grips (have them on both my CZ-75's, my Mil-Spec, and Handalls on my P95 and G23)...they fit my hands perfectly. I was wondering of the Witness .45 grip would accept the same Hogue FG as on my CZ-75's or if the grip is too large?

Thanks in advance,

According to Houge, no.

I put one on my witness and it was a very, very tight stretch but it did fit. The sides of the grips are the same in both guns. Its the wrap around part that goes around the front strap that makes it hard.

Thanks!

To verify, this was on a Steel witness .45?

Did it fit for practical use or was it merely physical possible to the seriously determined?

Thanks in advance,

CZ52Guy,

This same question came up on www.CZForum.com . I went out and purchased a set of Hogue finger-groove grips to try them out on my .45 Witness.

I started out trying them straight and was unable to make them fit. I then attempted to heat them by letting them sit in boiling water and then stretching them. Well, after several tries, scalded fingertips, and some harsh language, I got them on.

However, the grips did not fully cover the holes in the frame for the grips. Just behind the magazine release on each side, there was a small gap that you could just see through. Also, the magazines would bind on the grips making them difficult to remove and insert.

I was informed that some have stuck with these grips and just filed the inside of the grips to keep the magazines from binding but I just can't handle a grip that doesn't cover all it's supposed to.

Happily, I have found a use for the hogue grips I had as I recently purchased an '84 type A CZ 75. It's currently on the way to be hard-chromed. :D

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

...and congratulations on your Pre-B...have you fired it yet...best trigger I've found hands down!

Thanks again and safe shooting,

Yeah, I fired it the day it came in. The pistol looked like it hadn't been cleaned in the last 1000 rounds or so. The internals were absolutely coated black with powder residue and the finish was just flat out missing in chunks up to 1" by .5". I just can't understand why anyone would do that to such a good firearm.

I didn't have the Hogue grips when it came in because I was just at my ffl to pick up some 7.62 for my sks to go plinking with friends when he asked if it was the CZ that I'd ordered. The original grips have also had a rough time of it and I'm not all that big of a fan of plastic grips anyway, so they just had to go. ;) Anyways, I put the Hogues on afterward and I am quite content.

Although, now that I think about it, Hakan's shadow grips have caught my eye once or twice. Hmmm...

Hopefully, I'll be able to bum my college's digital camera off of our technician and get some pics of it and my other pistols to post on CZF.
