Can anyone tell me where to buy hogue grips for the best price?

I want a set for my Model 36 snubby

Did you want rubber or wood?? Hogue offers both. Cheaperthandirt.com always has good pricing on stuff like that, but truthfully, installing an aftermarket grip will lower the overall value of your gun. It's obvisiously up to you, but IMHO, the original S&W factory grips look great ;)

Unfortunately, the wood grips are pretty much the same no matter where you get them.
Rubber, will almost always be between $15-20. I'd check out the auction websites, as well as cheaper than dirt, and Midway.

What is the "special handling" charge that Midway adds? My rubber Bantam grips cost me $29.00 after NRA roundup. Service was great but extra charges were a bit of a surprise.

Mmmmmm Hogue's

Plinky,
This is from Midway's website: "Since we will accept any size order, there is a Special Handling Charge of $3.00 for all retail product orders under $25.00 and $4.00 for all dealer product orders under $40.00 to offset the additional costs associated with handling orders under these amounts."
From your post, it sounds like your order was under $25, so you got to pay the "Special Handling Charge."

Thanks, Nicolai.

That's fair enough and logical. It just caught me off guard. I knew there was a reason I should spend more.;)

It will only decrease the value if you throw out the old grips. If you have an extra set of hogues when you go to sell it, if anything you'll get more for the gun.

Plinky--
I had a couple of suprises on shipping charges on my first Midway order. On balance, Midway has lots of good products (good sale prices, too) and great customer service.

NO...NO. You've gotta keep those factory grips on your M36. Don't put after-market wheels on your nice shiny vintage car. :D

One of the better kept secrets seems to be Hogue's auction site at http://www.hogueauction.com/. They auction off other-than-usual examples of their grips: premium examples and seconds. Most of the seconds I've bought have been indistinguishable from first quality, at least by me. A few (not many) have been warped.

I'll second the vote for HogueAuction.com. Great prices and I haven't had any issues with fit, although I'm terrible at getting that screw in the bottom of the grip to catch without lots of trial and error.
Anyway, I seem to remember checking the site every week or so waiting for J-frame seconds to show up, I don't see any there now. Not a good option unless you have the patience to wait.

Ick! Finger Grooves. If Hogue didn't offer non-finger groove grips I'd burn the plant down to save the honor of all those poor six shooters forced into finger groove slavery. Abominable.

:D
