I am about to acquire a 686-5 with a 2.5 inch tube. Seems like this barrel length is not offered by a lot of holster makers.

I am looking for a leather pancake style high-ride belt holster. Any ideas?

Mine (as well as most of my other snub nosed revolvers) spends most of its time in an Alessi Belt Slide.

As mentioned, Don Hume has some pretty nice stuff at some pretty reasonable prices. I bought one of their H715Ms that accomodate my 686, 66 and a Ruger GP for $24.95 (leather IWB clip on). Contact them and they'll be happy to send a current catalogue, gratis.

They don't make any holsters for that gun. You are best off selling that gun and getting something else. I can buy it off you because I don't need to carry it in a holster but it is almost worthless to you I suspect.

Just kidding. I just want your gun! Where do you guys find all these cool variations?

Thanks guys. I ordered a Don Hume belt slide high ride. Thanks for the info.

Firestar -- I stumbed across this at a small local shop. Better yet -- I got it for $300... I like it a lot.

I have a Don Hume "First Agent" for a Model 19 2.5" and it is horrible -- I no longer use it. It is impossible to reholster the gun and adjustability on the belt was minimal. At least it was cheap and held the butt of the gun relatively close to the body. But I wouldn't recommend one.

I guess nobody can bat 100%, but I have the H715M, as mentioned, in leather that fits both the K and L frame revolvers, have a H715 in nylon that fits several Glocks in the compact and subcompact series (also holds a Ruger P95 and 944, but not a great fit) and I have a PCCH for the Glock compacts and subcompacts and a PCCH for Smith J-frames. Haven't had a bad Don Hume product yet.

I just picked up a 2.5" 686 on Friday, and am looking for a holster. It'll be my camping/hiking/hunting gun, and I'll give my Springer a break for those duties. I'm definitely looking for a thumbstrap.

Lou Alessi's Belt Slide is nice, and my first choice -- have one in brown and another in black for my 3" M-66. Tucker HF-1 is also a quality product -- the cranberry black finish is just incredible! Maybe also check out Mernickle and Hoffners. Oops, cannot forget Rusty Sherrick -- he works in horsehide and makes both FBI cant and straight drop belt slides for revolvers. Both make very good products.

686 holster

I recently picked up a holster for my 2.5 inch 686 no dash. A friend recommended a desantis pancake that we saw at the York, Pa gunshow. I think it is the Speed Scabbard. The model on the websight is shown with three belt slots and a tension screw. Mine has 2 slots and no tension screw. The angle is FBI cant. Retention is excellent. Presentation is smooth once the leather wears in a little bit. (It soesn't take long.) Positioning on my 1.5 inch belt is reasonably solid. The slots a re positioned just far enough apart to straddle 2 belt loops on my bluejeans.(3 o'clock) This holster puts the leading edge of the gun's cylindar between the middle and bottom of my belt -- high enough for me to conceal with a long untucked shirt, but not so high as to flop over. In all, I'm more pleased than I have been in a long time with an "off the shelf" holster. I'm a big fan of Milt Sparks, but this holster was in the right place at the right time
