Does anyone have a good holster idea for a Smith and Wesson 620? 7-shot cylinder, L-frame, 4" half-underlug barrel.

Either an IWB or a nicely fitting OWB would be nice, preferably leather. If anything, it'll be a "winter" CCW piece (when jackets are an aid), and/or a farm and hunting rig. That being said...there's a ton of 686 holsters for that full underlug, but not so much for the 620.

Thanks!

I just got one of these for my N-Frame Mountain Gun, which is very similar to the 620. I really like it. They offer a K/L-Frame version, also. It is nearly identical, just a tad smaller to fit the gun snugly.

It is well-made, inexpensive (for a leather holster), and it holds the gun in a very comfortable position close to my body so I don't have to swing my arm up and around it while walking (can really be an issue with a holstered .44).

If you have a Cabela's nearby, they were selling these for $23.99.

How would the fit for that thing work on an L frame, in an L/K holster? Is it a "tight" fit, or more of an "it's in there, and stays in there due to the retention flap"? And how loose is that thing while on a "regular" gunbelt (as opposed to one of those western-ish leather belt rigs)?

Any 686 holster is going to work fine - the cylinder and barrel molding will hold it just as snugly as a custom one. You can also stretch 4" K frame holsters easily - wet the holster, wrap the gun in saran wrap, insert and leave over night. I wouldn't be too hung up on finding one molded just for the 620.

I owned a M619 (same as the M620 but with fixed sights) and had no trouble finding a holster to fit it. Any full size K frame holster or any K/L frame holster will fit fine.

I bought a DeSantis Speed Scabbard which fit perfectly.

An outstanding carry holster is the Sourdough Pancake from Simply Rugged. You can add the inside-out straps and carry both IWB or OWB with the same holster.

I can stick my regular belt (the one that holds up my pants) through it and carry the gun that way, no problem.

WRT how tight it is, my Model 10 is loose in the N-Frame holster, but the N-Frame is snug. The K/L should fit the 620 snugly.

If you're going to carry on the belt or shoulder rig and want leather...check out Galco....

or if you have a Cabela's in your area...they are awesone for price and selections.

Personally, I have a Forbus paddle (polyeurethene) ....snug fit but easy draw.....

You can also try Coronado Leathers.....I have a concealed carry purse that's perfect for my S&W .357 Mag..2" hammerless.

One of thse days I'm going to try a Simply Rugged holster, but in the mean time Eric at Side Guard Holsters puts out a nice IWB for a fair price. Mine was made for my L-frame 586, but after some judicious stretching, also fits my 4" N-frame. It still works fine with the L frame, so it's not "all stretched out".

Another good company for leather holsters is DeSantis...

We have a nice executive leather holster for our S&W .40 M&P from them and it was reasonably priced too! Good fit!

Another thought.....I'm positive I want a holster which covers the whole trigger assembly (ruling out a few of the above options), but should I look into a holster with a thumb snap or no? More often than not, this thing would be a farm use/hunting use holster, but maybe occasionally CCWed in the winter, and two thoughts cross my mind: I don't want my gun to fall out either in the woods or near a bush hog tractor attachment, and I'm unfamiliar with how well these holsters would secure my firearm.
