I see a hunter holster that fits a ruger speed six 4", but does not say security six 4" (my gun). The two guns are about the same size - right? If it fits one, it should fit the other - right?

Same gun, one has fixed sights, the other adjustable.

Somwhere I read they were virtually the same gun. Sounds good.

Some holsters are molded to the exact shape of the particular gun they are supposed to fit, and trying to use them with a different gun can be a mistake. The Hunter holster you are looking at isn't one of those however.
The Speed Six had fixed sights, where the Security Six had a thicker top strap and adjustable ones. I thon't think the holster will know the difference. but you might have to remove a little leather to clear the rear sight. If you have a pocket knife that won't be a problem.

Didn't remember (or didn't know, hard to tell somedays) about the top strap difference. Man, there's so much gun info out there.
As you said, the Hunter should stretch and mold to it in any event. I have a Triple K I molded to my SAA by treating it like a baseball mitt.

Hunter makes a good basic holster for field use. I have no doubt that the gun will fit without any problems except possibly around the rear sight area, and if that is the case it won't take much to cure it. As for the topstrap, it isn't that much wider or thicker, just more rounded on top.

Looks O.K. to me. if anything it might be a little loose. I have some of the same kind myself.
I don't know if you ever get to gun shows, but when I attend one I snoop around looking for vendors that have boxes filled with old leather gear. A lot of it is police surplus, sold after they changed over to pistols. I've found some super buys on previously expensive revolver holsters that now sell for around $10.00 to $20.00.
Those Rugers were popular with police departments so you find a lot of stuff ...

I probably will. P0832177 (john) shot me some fun show dates. A good one in Oct coming up. But the price looks pretty good on that Hunter. I probably will not be able to be patient that long.
