Just ordered S&W 686P 5" bbl. No one seems to have a holster for it because of the 7 shot cylinder and 5" barrel. There isn't even a dummy gun available for holster makers to use. What a pain. I'll be carrying owb on belt and want the barrel (& High Viz front ramp) protected by holster.

Does anyone have any suggestions on finding a holster?

Thanks.

you can try kramer leather, i'm selling one that is for 686 2" barrel. the order form asks what length barrel and has a spot for your comments.( where you can add 7 shot). i think a barrel up to 5 inches adds $10. at least on the scabbard.

I believe that last year's 'Stocking Dealer's Exclusive' 5" 686+ was the latest 5" variant, the 2.5", 4", & 6" 686+ being all that they currently catalog. Also, that 5" goodie came half-lugged (That's why I bought it!) - with Ahrend's stocks, a HiViz front sight, and a V-notch rear sight. I love mine - a real keeper. The h-l - and that tall HiViz - may make a difference, especially in a custom fitted holster.

I have an El Paso Saddlery #2 Thumbreak belt holster for that exact gun. It's in about 98% condition. Looks like new. I'll sell it for $45 shipped if you're interested.

I'm too modest to expose my barrel

Try the fobus paddle holster. The design is open bottom so it should fit and they're only $20

Thanks Lucky 7 but I prefer holsters that fully cover the barrel. Don't want any damage from banging into things, etc.

Response to Replies; thank you

BullRock and Noogaguns--I'll check with Black Hills and Kramer to see if they have the gun on hand (or can hold of a loaner)--I've been told there are no dummy guns made for this unique combination of 7 shot cylinder and 5" bbl along with High Viz front sight.

Stainz--what do you holster it in??

Brasso--I replied to your msg.

Thank you.

Perpster and Stainz -- apparently we all have the same special edition 686 ... and we all have the same problem finding holsters. I've had to carry mine in an el-cheapo nylon rig because of the large blade of the Hi-Viz sight -- and the problem with finding a decent off-the-shelf leather holster for a five-inch 686 with the + cylinder ...

I hope you guys have found the same stellar accuracy and great trigger pull with your revolvers that mine has ... I think the Ahrend's finger groove cocobolo stocks look great, and I've found I prefer a half-lugged 686 (wish the 4-inchers came that way) ...

Problem Solved Thanks to Brasso

Thanks again to all who replied. The outcome was that Brasso had a custom holster (El Paso Saddlery) for the 686+ 5" which he no longer needed and which he sold to me at a fair price.

I must say to all on this board that Brasso was an utter gentleman to deal with and that it is and was my honor to have "met" him.

Besides that, he showed some real Southern hospitality to a New Yawker!

Stay Safe Everyone,

Perpster

PS: The holster is by El Paso Saddlery Co.; #2 Thumbreak model
