I'm looking for a kydex IWB for my new Springfield XD9 subcompact. I want something as thin and as close to "Mexican carry" feel as possible. The XD is thick enough without a bunch of thickness from the holster. Both the BladeTech Nano and Fist very thin kydex claim to offer this. Can anyone compare? Blade Tech looks a little thicker, but better made, with an adjustable tension screw.

Neither. Check out Peters Custom Holsters. They are the best kydex holsters I've found. I carry my M&P in it.

I'm not sure this will help you that much, but I have a Fist K6 in ultrathin kydex that I carry a S&W M36. Comparing it to my only other kydex holster (grandfather oak Hidden Companion), the Fist is 1/3 the thickness. It really is almost paper thin.

I researched the Fist before I bought my Peters holster. There were a few guys who had problems with the construction of the thin kydex and the holsters broke. In defense of Fist they promptly replaced them. I believe the ones in question were the adjustable ones that had a lot of holes near the belt loop weakening the material in that area.

BUT, this was about 3 years ago. They may have totally changed the design since then and given a choice between the two I would still take the Fist. A thin kydex holster with a lining of mole skin on side against your body is the best carry rig I've had yet.

I use the Fist ultra-thin kydex almost exclusively. I have bought over a dozen of them for various pistols. However, it's true that because they're so thin they aren't as sturdy as some thicker holsters. The ultra-thin ones won't last you a lifetime - just several years - but I still believe they're worth the price because of the comfort provided by their thinness. But to some people the thought of one chipping is unconscionable... I understand that point of view too.

+1 for FIST. I have several of their K1A IWB holsters, use them all the time, they're great-comfortable, easy to draw from, good retention even without a tension screw, and THIN:D

For IWB "appendix" carry the Fist Kydex clip on is my #1 choice.

For strong side IWB (I carry at about 3:00) the Blade Tech UCH is my favorite; compared to the Fist holster (the one with adjustable belt loops front & back) the Blade-Tech rides lower and offers more forward tilt.

I have used the Fist ones for years. I have had one of the ultra thin ones tear after a couple years use so now I always order the thin ones(not ultra thin). I have never had a problem with them. I have owned several blade-tech ones and to me they are nowhere as thin or comfortable as the Fist ones. I will say that I haven't tried the Blade-tech nano yet. Using the Fist is pretty close to sticking the gun in your waist without a holster.

Yes. It is very thin and comfortable for carry but it is NOT a good holster in my opinion. If is very difficult to reholster with one hand and I also don't think they are safe for a weapon like the G26. I would never carry a weapon that has neither a safety or exposed hammer in a holster that is difficult to re-holster the weapon. It is a recipe for a shot buttock. Stick with a well molded leather or a kydex holster. Also you should consider the Comptac CTAC holster. It isn't quite as thin but the adjust-ability of the holster makes it a winner. My first choice is still the Peters Custom having carried my M&P in one for several years now.

I've also tried the Raven Phantom holster. It is similar to the Peters but the extra width of it made it uncomfortable for me. That will vary by a persons body type though.

Haven't had the thin kydex, but virtually all my IWB holsters are FIST 1A Hybrid's. Kydex interior bonded to a leather exterior. Fantastic fit and finish, easy to reholster, and very comfortable.

jon in wv. I checked out that peters custom IWB holster. I like that. Thanks for the heads up.

I have an XD-9 s.c. and one of my first holsters was a Blade Tech IWB. I didn't care for it. I ended up with a Kholster which is very comfortable and I have no regrets with it.

Your welcome sharpblade. The guy who makes them does it as a small business in Ohio I believe. They are not a big operation but the product he makes is pretty darned good. Mine is still like new and I've carried it for a couple years.
