Hopefully some of you can help with this.

I'm looking for a couple holsters for a M&P Shield 1.0 and a M&P 9c 1.0 (the 3.6" model - edited post from. 3.1" to 3.6" for the M&P9c)

I think ideally what I'm looking for is kydex or kydex like after reading @ontarget thread about his 1911. Maybe he can share what he's going to.

And to honest, I'm not the most holster savvy.

M&P Shield 1.0: I want IWB. I normally carry appendix but would like to be able to move it around to 3:30ish. I think I want kydex or comparable and if so, want some type of sweat shield or leather or something up against my skin.

M&P 9c 1.0 (3.1" model) :This one is more tricky. I want the same as above but able to be converted to OWB if possible & with a thumb break strap. I don't know if all that is possible so if it isn't, I'd need to get 2 for the 9c & hope you all can suggest for that.

Cost is always a factor and I'm not looking for anything fancy; just a basic set up that is decent quality.

Thank door any suggestions.

For IWB, and if you're OK with a hybrid, check out Stealth Gear. I bought one of their Revolution holsters, and almost immediately sold a CBST to fund a replacement for it (the CBST). I knew I wouldn't be using it again.

You are either current/former LE or you're looking for a field holster. Thumb breaks are not common on concealment holsters - they typically aren't needed - and they are even less common on kydex holsters.

In leather, Simply Rugged's Tribute is available as a convertible IWB/OWB holster and comes with a thumb break. I think it is available for your model of M&P.

I had to search a bit to figure out what you were referring to with the ontarget reference ( https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/can-the-1911-experts-please-explain-this.897108/ ), but I assume it has something to do with the thumb safety getting switched off, and you have a M&P with a thumb safety. Is that correct?

Typically, the thing that is most likely to switch off a thumb safety are either thumb breaks or large, soft sweat shields like you find on the aforementioned Stealth Gear (I'm not familiar with the Revolution line), or those from Alien Gear, and similar products.

Remember, ontarget was using a $40 soft leather holster, that while it may not have been the cause of his problem, it certainly wasn't helping the situation.

A quality holster, either leather or kydex, with or without a sweat shield, would have helped avoid his problem.

I have always carried my M&P 9 2.0 in a Kydex IWB holster. Secure and protects the Thumb Safety. I now have the same holster for my 1911. The brand is Concealment Express. Comfortable and I can carry a duty size pistol all day. No more inexpensive leather for this guy.

It's not what you asked for.
It's not kydex. Its suede.
Desantis SofTuck. Mine is for my sr9c, but I believe it is the same as the shield 2.0. Double check me on that, please.

See the suede holster on the right.
Comfort. Discreet.
They are inexpensive too.
I have four of them for sp101, 1911, lcp, sr9c.
The j-clip is adjustable for cant. This holster can be worn all positions including cross-draw. The jclip will work on sweats or shorts without a belt.

If it's not what you're looking for, so be it. Just my $.02.

I'm not LE past or present. Just a regular guy.

I wasnt clear in my OP wish list in regards to the dual purpose holster for the 9c.

Yes, it does have a thumb safety as well as the Shield, too. I should have said that too.

For the 9c, If possible, I'm looking for a dual purpose IWB & OWB field type with a thumb break strap. Ideally the strap would be removable for IWB carry.

Realizing that may not be possible, then either a dual purpose with enough retention to not need the strap when OWB field carrying or, maybe more likely, 2 different holsters for the 9c.

Thanks for the questions and suggestion.

Clinger Black Friday sale, Hinge set is convertible to IWB/OWB available for both your guns. I think 30% off.

I have just started using Viper Arms Tactical. Well-made holsters that are well thought out, quick shipping. Got a Kiowa IWB for my p365 and I will get a Level II OWB next. He does do M&P Shield but not sure about the 9c you should contact him. He responds quickly.

Will you need to tuck your shirt?
Thumb breaks are not common on concealment holsters - they typically aren't needed
Ditto the above, so you'll be great friends with Google filling that prescription.

I have several, so that should tell you they are a good value for the money, which isn't much. Mine, however, currently serve roles other than conceal carry because passive retention is zero and I don't like unholstering if I need a public restroom. They're inexpensive enough that you can try it and see for yourself.

But bear in mind - these inquiries are helpful but we're all so individualized that my right solution my not replicate to you. So I'll repeat what is so often stated in holster threads: find a spare drawer to catch all the holsters you'll buy on the holy grail search! Get on the major holster websites and look for that one and only, then you'll likely find a number of folks here with personal experience with that model and they can tell you if and why the holster is strapped to their belt or getting old in that drawer.
