I picked up my S40 about two weeks ago and I'm very happy with the purchase. I'm looking for holsters now, and haven't seen too much. I did go to the HighnoonHolsters site, but they only listed holsters for the "M" series. Will any holster for the "m" work for the "S" ? If so, are there drawbacks ?
Also, I was in my local outdoor store and found a Fobus kydex paddle holster that was labeled as fit for a Sig229 or Steyr S series. I had to use way too much force to get the S40 in, forget about getting it out. Has anybody found a holster made for another gun that works well with the S40 ?

Thanks in advance,

I've got my eye on an S40 and have noticed the same issue with holsters. Did you try emailing Highnoon and asking if they are considering the S40?

Perhaps if we both email....

S40 Holsters

I didn't email HighNoon. I did email Milt Sparks and asked if they make a holster for the S40. They replied that if the S40 was the same as the M40, then , yes, they did make a holster for it (???). Strange reply, but their holsters look sweeeeet.

Holsters

Whoa! After getting Darrin's post, I sent an email to HighNoon. About an hour later I got a response :

The S is smaller but it would fit with a little leather left over.

That has to be the fastest response I've ever had to commercial site.

Where in Virginia are you? If you are close to the Norfolk area, Backwoods Custom Leather in Portsmouth will make you a holster for whatever you want however you want. You may have to leave the gun with him for a week or two, but the end product is well worth the wait. I have holsters from him for just about every gun I have. Workmanship is exquisite, easily the equal of other Galco, Kramer, and Highnoon. Prices are very reasonable. I rarely see one of his holsters exceed $100 and most of the belt and IWBs run around $45. He is basically a one man operation and, unfortunately does not have a website. I have his contact info somewhere around here. If you're interested, let me know. He has told me in the past that he will do mail-in orders for anything he stocks, but it is always better to go out to his shop and see what he's got. He's got some really nice paddle holsters for around $75 that my dad swears by.

He's also at the gunshow in Mechanicsville (Showplace) today. Near the back of the exhibition hall on the left wall. He makes both the Richmond and Hampton shows regularly.

Holsters

I live 30 minutes south of Richmond. I was at the gunshow today. I checked out three holster booths on the back of the left wall, but I'm not sure I saw his booth. One was Gunner's Alley, the other booth sold some factory holsters. There was a guy back there who did custom made holsters. About 52/53 grey hair, thin beard and mustache. He didn't have any made that would fit the Steyr. He said it was an unusual gun. I don't know if that means he couldn't make one for it, or he'd have to have the gun to mold the holster.
Thanks for the info. If you find the contact info, please post it. I have some friends that live in Chesapeake and I could stop by his shop while I'm out there.

Thanks again,

Santai,

Backwoods was just in front (towards the front door) of the Gunner's Alley table. Right next to the restrooms. The S-series steyrs are unusual. They look to be a bit wider than Glock and also more blocky towards the front, so closely fitted Glock holsters probably won't work. I'll venture that he meant that he didn't have anything that could be adapted to your gun. For instance, I bought a Beretta 9000s Saturday and immediately went to him for a holster, he said he could make it if I brought the gun by the shop or I could try a Sig P239 holster - works wonderfully, the grip frame is essentially the same. I'm really partial to his clip-on IWB. To compound your problem, I don't think there have been any molds available to fit S-series Steyrs. Short answer is, you'll have to let him have the gun for about 2 weeks for him to make the holster from scratch. This is an estimated time, he does get backed up occasionally and I can in no way speak for him as far a manufacture time (this is just what he's told me in the past). He may even be able to turn it around faster. He can custom make it to just about any gun you have, but most people won't want to leave their gun (I can understand that). So alot of time (probably most) the discussion ends there. He may not want to take on custom work at the show (somebody elses gun would be just one more thing to pack up and would be an added liability for him). If you bring your gun to his shop, you should be in business. I'll post the contact info I have (in case you didn't pick up one of his cards) in the next day or so.

Alot of us are wait and see on the Steyrs. I love my M-series 9mm and would like to have an S-series, but I want to make sure the support is there. Holstermakers will be the same way. A good many will be reluctant to stock holsters for a new gun design and will only make to order. I don't know if Backwoods makes one for the M-series guns. If he does, maybe the same mold will work and he can just shorten the holster when he makes it.

I have a left-handed, black leather, leather lined, Bulman THR belt holster custom made for an S9/S40. The quality of craftsmanship is second to none. It is in unused condition. I paid $135, would sell for $95 delivered. Email me if interested I can provide pics.

I highly reccommend Gunners alley the customer service is excellent and Fist makes holsters for the S series steyr at a real reasonable price too. Call and speak to Ed he will get you what you want and make sure you are happy with the product you get or he'll take it back.

S40

I did allot of shopping around before I finally picked a holster. One thing I did find out was the Steyr handuns will usually fit in a Beretta 92F holster. So that made it a little bit easier to find holster that would work. Also the holster I now use a Bianchi Minimalist 105 works for all of my Steyr handguns. My Steyr Collection

I am planning on buying a couple of holsters from Hignnoon when I have a few more funds available.

S40 Holsters

The thread you referenced here says that your Bianchi Minimalist 105 was quite a bit tighter with the "S" series as compared to the "M" series. Are you using the 105 for the S40 ? If so, did it need some breaking in ? Is the holster more loose now with the "M" series in it ?-------

I ordered a lined "Speedy Spanky" in black from HighNoonHolsters last night. I am also looking for a pancake/belt slide in leather, and a belt slide/pancake or paddle holster in Kydex. For the leather belt slide/pancake I am considering the Fist # 10 from GunnersAlley. I really haven't had any luck with the Kydex though. The Fobus paddle that is "made" for the S series is way to tight. I think I put a scratch on my slide just trying one at a gun show. Blade-Tech makes a nice 3 position padddle but only for Glocks.
Thanks for all the replies. Anyone know of a good Kydex holster for the S40 ?
